Every Runner Needs a Good Running Partner

This morning my running buddy came over so we could try to knock out a long run. It's supposed to be warm and muggy most of the weekend, so I sort of convinced her to just get it done this morning so we wouldn't have to get up super early tomorrow to get our long run done.  Amy got to my house just after 5:30 and we headed out into the thick, soupy air. As a side note - my Garmin is messing up yet again. This is the replacement I recently paid for, second replacement I should add as the first they sent was a total dud. Now it's not charging, losing charge immediately and freezing. Garmin is completely losing my respect as a loyal customer. Ok, end of rant.  We started off and since I had to use Jason's Suunto, which displays mph not mpm, I needed to rely on Amy's watch for our pace. After some stupid training mistakes this week already, I had warned her that I needed to slow my roll. We were going to shoot for 11 miles and I wanted them to be smart tra...

Pros and Cons of Running With or Without a Partner

My original post for today was going to be about dreams - not your hopes and wishes kind either. But as I was out on my first solo, dark-thirty run since the time change, my mind was wandering around as is typical. I started thinking about all of the pros and cons of running solo vs with a partner.  When I came upon the Clinton Bridge, I realized I didn't have anyone to marvel at the lights with. But at the same time, no one would be miffed at me for stopping too long to take a picture.  I know I've mentioned it before, but when I first started running about 6 years ago, I only ran with Jason. I finally weened myself and then only ran solo. Then I met Amy about a year and a half ago (a little longer than that) and we ended up running 2-3 days a week at first. But as I got faster, we ended up running most of our runs together - or some day it'd be 4-6 miles together then a few solo.  Unfortunately, my reliable running partner doesn't live ...

Fun for Friday - Squats During a Run & Other Escapades

Hope everyone has had a nice week - if nothing else, at least it's Friday right? Our weather has taken another crazy turn today - Wednesday's high was mid 70s, today we have ice and sleet coming down. Luckily, I planned today as a non-running day. I've put in 23 miles over 3 days plus I did legs last night. So, I got up this morning and got on my bike trainer and watched Miss Congeniality . I forgot how funny that movie is.  I will say that perhaps I need my own personal trainer as I am terrible at planning out my workouts. Three days of running, legs then bike trainer? Yeah...wobbly legs. But, I guess I can't or shouldn't complain because at least I am healthy enough to do these workouts. You see, on this date last year, I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my neck. My world pretty much was turned upside down. I was told no running, no exercising period. I went from running 36 miles to sitting on the couch, scared.  Just before the blood clot diagnos...
