Biceps, Triceps and Plan B Dinner

Bis & Tris Today I had a doctor's appointment at 1. I plan on talking about it tomorrow, but for today, I'll just stick to my regular posts. The appointment took far longer than I thought it would take, it was a good thing I had already told my boss that I probably wouldn't be back to work that afternoon. I really needed to sort of decompress after the appointment, so I went straight to the gym to get in a pump session. Today's workout started off with my typical elliptical warmup. It did not take long to warm up either. It was 80 degrees today and the building did not have the A/C on. To say sweatfest is an understatement. I went with biceps and triceps then tacked on a high rep superset at the end (totally optional) Pin It * I for the swing lunges with curls, I did 4 lunges to each side rather than 8. I the idea from Kristin at Stuftmama - check out her videos for examples of how to do the moves. Kitchen Time After the gym, I was going to go home and st...

SOYJOY(ous) Day + Comfort Style Dinner

Monday Spin Today was a typical Monday workout day for me - spin class. I can't begin to tell you how much easier it was not having done a leg day yesterday. Duh right ;-) It was still a tough workout mind you, but my legs weren't yelling at me the whole time. I had thought I might try to get in triceps or chest before the spin class, but just really didn't feel up to it at all. It was a "meh" kind of Monday. I think the weight workout would have ended up being only so-so for me just because of my mind set. Of course, maybe that's just me trying to justify skipping out on the weight workout.... SOYJOY(ous) When I got home from work, there was a rather large box waiting for me. I couldn't for the life of me remember anything I had recently ordered, or that would be showing up so soon. I scanned the label, but nothing just stood out reminding me what the package was. And it had to be a good one, it was heavy! When I first opened it up, I was still cl...

Making Lemonade...Lemony Quinoa & Roasted Green Veggies

Being Thankful I don't know how many of you read about the deadly storms that rolled through (again) last night. But sadly, 10 lives were lost. I count myself so lucky. My family is all safe, and none of us had any damage to our homes or vehicles last night. We have another round of severe weather heading our way again tonight. The ground is saturated at this point (flooding in lower lying areas). So it's highly likely to see even more large trees topple. On my way to work this morning, I saw two trees down and tons of debris strewn everywhere. We weren't even hit hard compared to many areas. Seeing some of the photos of the destruction definitely made me so very thankful that the most damage we've had so far is hail damage on our vehicles. So minor in comparison. Here are a couple of awesome photos I saw (definitely not taken by me, my butt was inside). Wall cloud photo from KARK ( source) Funnel cloud in my hometown close to Jason's parent's home ...

Still Lagging Mojo & Protein Power Pasta

Eked Out Morning Workouts This morning I had my alarm set for a little after 5. I slept fairly well, only waking up twice, but the second time (around 4) I started to rethink getting up for a morning workout. I knew that I could easily fall back asleep for another two hours if I let myself. I think that it's also getting harder to get up early since it's starting to stay dark so much longer. I probably should have slept in, but ended up dragging myself out of the bed for weights and cardio. I did 3 supersets for shoulders and triceps (odd combination) for 3 sets of 8 reps then finished off with 2 exercises done to failure (just for funzies). SS#1 Shoulder press Overhead triceps extension SS#2 Lateral raise Double-arm kickbacks SS#3 Upright rows Lying triceps extensions (on stability ball) Front/Side raise - 10 reps Weighted triceps dips - 16 reps (probably could have hit 18) I was feeling a bit weak again today. Of course, lifting in the morning always seems...

Running, Lifting, Grilling & Anniversary

My How You've Grown It's so true that time flies when you're having fun. And time has flown by with my blogging. Exactly 6 months ago I published my first official blog post: Let Me Introduce the Blog . I don't want to make a whole post of my 6 month anniversary, but I thought it might be fun to reintroduce myself and do just a brief recap: "About Me" So what's up with the title? My husband jokes with me about my biceps since I started working out. I protest saying you can't see them unless I flex. His response: Where's the Beach [flex] The Beach is This Way. So my blog is about getting fit, staying fit, and hitting the beach! My goal is to inspire others to workout and get into shape. I am also passionate about food. I am vegetarian, but I love to cook and try out new recipes. One goal is to show that just because a recipe is vegetarian or vegan, doesn't mean that a meat-eater won't enjoy it. It's far more than lettuce and sprout...

Friday Follow Up & Laid Back Saturday

Friday Follow Up Last night was a ton of fun. I always enjoy getting to hang out with my sister. We started the evening off with a happy hour at Big Whiskey's then back to the house for homemade pizza and wine. I had pre-made my usual Wheat Pizza Dough Thursday evening, but we did end up having a friend of Jason's stop by. So, I dug out an old recipe I had on hand for a super quick Whole-Wheat and Honey Dough . This one does not really rise, it's a much flatter, crispier type of crust. But it really works in a pinch. Tim was super nice and brought over some wine to share. It went perfect with the pizza, which no one complained about! One was made up Greek style with sundried tomatoes, kalamata olives, spinach, artichokes, banana pepper rings, roasted red bell peppers, and feta. For the other pizza, half was made with vegetarian pepperoni, sauteed green bell peppers, onions, and garlic. The other half had sauteed squash, green and red bell peppers, and onions. There was no...
