Thursday Thoughts - Different Running Routes, Slow Sunrises & Rolling

Happy Friday Eve! It's been one of those sleepless weeks for me. The dogs are in control basically. Heath (who is blind for those who don't know), used to be terrified of knocking down a baby gate This meant we could simply prop it into place and they would stay put in the kitchen all night. Little man has gotten brave, with the exception of storms, and started busting out of the kitchen each night. That was fine, he didn't mess with the other gate leading up the stairs ... at first. Long story short, he makes his way up nightly now and Maddie has decided she wants to follow. It took her a while to get over the idea of stepping over the fallen gate. The problem is nails on hardwood is loud, Maddie roams and roots around looking for something to get into, eat and/or destroy, they get into tiffs when she makes him move out of his bed ... and it goes on and on. So, the dogs have taken over. And I'm wiped out, especially after getting up to run on top of the lack of s...

Fun for Friday - High Fiving the Polar Vortex

Happy Friday! My friend Angela at Happy Fit Mama does a High 5 Friday post each week. I thought I'd do a version of that for my Fun for Friday post. Here are the 5 things I'm High Fiving this week: 1. More Sunrises    I am so glad I chose to head straight down towards the river Thursday Morning. The sun was still low in the sky, but you can see it peeking through the Clinton Bridge and casting a pink and purple glow. How can you not stop and take a picture of something like that? 2. Polar Vortex Seriously, a Polar Vortex in July? First off, I had never heard of such a thing until this winter. But it's most definitely in full effect here right now. We are breaking records right and left this year with our unusually cooler weather with lowest lows and lowest highs. Normally we would be in the upper 90s with heat indices in the 100s (like last week). Yesterday we barely hit 71 degrees, today it's forecast for 73. Um, that's the high not the low. That...

Three Things Thursday - Eats, Reads, Sunrises

Happy Friday Eve (aka Thursday). I wanted to do a round-up of some of the things I've been enjoying lately. I used to share a good deal more about my daily life - meals, workouts, even books I read. So, today I thought I'd go back to that and share a little insider info. Eats We've been enjoying lots of salads lately. I guess salads tend to go hand-in-hand with summer.  1. Grilled veggie salad - pretty much any grilled veggie with either tempeh or tofu. 2. "Steak" summer salad - used Gardein Beefless Strips and mixed with corn, black beans, jalapenos, tomatoes, bell peppers, lime juice, apple cider vinegar and spices. Also great in wraps. 3. Green Bean, Potato, Tofu Salad with Dijon Dressing - I plan on posting this recipe next week. It was inspired by a friend who makes a similar salad for us. Reads I'm a big reader and love spending lazy Saturday and Sunday afternoons sitting outside reading. I typically read for an hour or so mos...

Three Things on Thursday

Happy Friday Eve! I feel like my days have been mixed up all week. Don't you just hate it when that happens? It's been a good week so far, but I am definitely ready for the weekend. I've gotten in some good runs (even managed to knock out my 10-miler this morning), done with my weight workouts for the week, now to focus on some extra stretching and enjoy a rest day tomorrow. Time to celebrate right? To celebrate Thursday, I thought I'd share 3 things that have made me smile this week. 1. ProCakes Protein Pancakes As a FitFluential Ambassador , I was lucky enough to have an opportunity to receive a sample of ProCakes to review. I will have a full review next week, but had to share as one of my 3 Things. These are gluten-free, high protein, and insanely easy to throw together. Even better - they actually taste good! 2. ThinkThin Bars I won this awesome stash of goodness from Amanda at  ThereAreTwoSides . I love ThinkThin Bars and am excited to try some of ...

A Calming Morning Run

Have you ever has one of those mornings that just started off completely wrong? No? Never? I guess mine started with a terrible night sleep. Heath has decided that he no longer wants to be in the kitchen at night. He'll bang at the baby gate until he either bloodies his paw or manages to dislodge the gate enough to escape. Recently, Jason has been letting them sleep downstairs outside of the kitchen. That would be fine if we knew Maddie wouldn't destroy something, like a pillow or couch. Last night he tried leaving them in the kitchen. Let's just say not only did that not work out, Heath managed to knock down another baby gate we have leading upstairs. He mosies on into our room, toenails clipclapping away on the hardwood floors - this is around 2 am mind you. I ended up covering up my ears with the pillow and a blanket and finally dozed off, in and out of sleep really as he kept getting up randomly. I finally got up out of bed at just after 5 am. He had happily enjoy...

Happy Things

TGIF - don't know about you all, but I'm pretty excited that it's Friday. How is it that short weeks can feel longer some how? It's been a really weird week for me, especially after Tuesday's run. So, I was having a really hard time coming up with something fun and maybe silly for Fun for Friday. I needed something not so serious. I even thought about skipping today. But then I read a post over at It Linz - Happy Happy . She asks what makes you happy. I thought it was a perfect topic for a Fun for Friday post and hope she doesn't mind me borrowing it. I've done other posts like this before, so I will try to mention a few different things this time. What makes me happy: Beautiful sunrises that go along with running My husband and family An awesome running buddy My crazy furbabies Florida sunsets Roses What's something that makes you happy?
