5-Miler to Meet My Goal

Saturday Follow Up Last night Jason let me take the night off in the kitchen. Well, I sort of orchestrated from the sidelines while he did the work. He decided to use some of the Quinoa Veggie Cakes I had leftover in the freeze for "burgers" with spinach, roasted red bell peppers, and Kaas Soy Monterey Jack "cheese." To go with the "burgers" he wanted to make a broccoli salad. He likes the creamy sauces I make using the silken tofu, but he's never made one himself. This is where I came in. I just gave him the basics and some seasoning ideas and let him do the rest. So he came up with a Creamy Broccoli and Carrot Salad . Creamy Broccoli and Carrot Salad Ingredients: 1 carrot, thinly sliced Fresh broccoli florets 1/2 cup chickpeas 1/4 cup golden raisins 1/2 package firm silken tofu Almond milk (to desired consistency) Juice from 1/2 lemon Zest of 1 lemon Splash of OJ To taste: Salt, pepper, parsley, dill, garlic powder, red pepper, drie...

Sunday = Leg Day, Lazy, Productive & Yummy Eats

Leg Day I wanted to thank everyone for congratulating me on my run yesterday. I will say that I am sore today, but not as bad as I thought I might be. My problem areas (hip flexor and hamstrings) are sore of course, but not unbearable. My calves are oddly sore too. But, I've been stretching and Jason gave me a massage. I'm so not worthy! Since I wasn't too terribly sore, I did go ahead with my regular Leg Day Sunday routine. But, I did a much easier workout with lighter weights and played around with rep patterns. Squats: 8 single, 4 2:2 count, 8 1:3 count, 4 3 count low-end pulse, 2 7 count low-end pulse, 4 2:2 count, 8 single Plie squats: 8 single, 4 2:2 count, 8 1:3 count, 4 3 count low-end pulse, 2 7 count low-end pulse, 4 2:2 count, 8 single Static lunges: 8 single, 4 2:2 count, 8 1:3 count, 4 3 count low-end pulse, 4 2:2 count Deadlifts - 3x8 Rear leg slide back lunges - 3x8 Firewalkers - 8 Donkey kicks with weight - 2x18 Single-leg deadlifts - 2...

2 Workouts and Quinoa Re-mix

2 on Tuesday  This morning I was wide awake at 4:30 am. In my mind that was simply too early to workout, so I waited until a little after 5 before getting out of bed and getting ready. Today I knew I'd be doing Day 3 of my Total-Body Training workout but was not wanting to lift in the morning. So, I opted for a lower intensity cardio: Cathe's Low Impact Circuit . I did the first 3 step combos from the cardio only premix and stretched. During lunch I went home to do weights. The set up was 2 sets of 15 reps: Triceps - Weighted triceps dips Biceps - DB curls Legs - Rear leg elevated lunges Shoulders - Lateral raises Chest - Flat bench flyes Back - Underhand rows Legs - Squats Inner Thighs - Plie squats I felt like it was a pretty good workout. I am definitely much stronger feeling mid-afternoon rather than first thing in the morning. Quinoa Re-mix It was another sunny, gorgeous day here, but very windy. The pollen is insane and just blowing in clouds. It's supposed to ra...

Soggy Sunday = Leg Workout and Quinoa Veggie Cakes

Leg Day Sunday So today started with another bowl of PB&J&B Oatmeal . I have some serious DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) happening from yesterday's workout. Wow. Good thing today was legs. I used the drop set method again for everything except calves: 12, 10, 8, 6. Alternating front lunges Squats Alternating rear lunges Plie squats Deadlifts Step ups Calf raises - 3 sets of 25 turned out, parallel, turned outs After my workout, I did just half of Shock Cardio HIIT Pyramid and Yoga-style abs from Abs Circuit then stretched. Veggie Cakes on Sunday It's rainy, cold, and dreary here today. I had wanted to bake some bread and do some other cooking today. However, the oven is broken so that didn't happen. I did manage to get lots of laundry done, Jason vacuumed the area rugs, and I swiffered up the doggy dust bunnies. I also tried straightening up and organizing the room that I am now using as my weight room. This house had once been a duplex and that particular...
