Running and Family Time

How does Monday roll around so darn quickly? This weekend was a good one. We didn't do too much, just enough to feel productive. Friday, my sister came up with my niece so I could take her shopping at Justice for her birthday. I have never seen that kid more excited. She's really becoming a girlie girl. She loves purple and sparkles, and was like a kid in a candy store when we walked in. She ping-ponged from one side of the store to the other and back again. The first shirt that caught her eye was one that had a hear (shiny of course) and "Dance" in huge letters. But then she found the "extras" (aka accessories). Um, when did notebooks become $15 by the way? Thank goodness everything was 40% off. She had a mighty large stack going until I told her we had to add it all up and see how much it really was. She had a gift card from her mom plus the money from me. She had to make tough decisions on what to put back and what to keep. It was really kind of funny...

5 by the 5th February

5 by the 5th If you recall, last month I did a post ( Starting Over ) mentioning the 5 by the 5th Virtual Run Series hosted by Laura at Mommy Run Fast. You can either do 5 miles or a 5K by the 5th of each month for 5 months. I guess a month sometimes flies by, because it's already that time again to post my 5 by the 5th results for February. Sunday morning Jason and I set out for a run. I had run my first double digit run since the blood clot on Saturday. Very very proud of that. It was definitely tough the last two miles, but I did it. Right now my muscle recovery is back on track after running. However, my fatigue level is just off the charts. I could barely keep my eyes open after about 3pm. Workouts just totally suck the energy from me. So while they're getting easier and recovery in terms of muscles is good, I can't seem to overcome the exhaustion or this freaking clavicle pain. Let's just say I slept very soundly.   So, back to Sunday. I rea...

Running, Laking, Shopping, Eating In: Branson Day 3

I wish I could say that I'm getting tons of restful sleep here. Not so much unfortunately. The bedroom only has blinds so once the sun starts coming up, that's all she wrote. Also, the walls seem to be very thin or we just have very loud neighbors. But, I won't complain too much because I'm having a very good time. Today we decided to run a trail along the lake front. It ended up being 4.6 (rolling hills) miles. So, 4.6 actually felt more like 6. It wasn't an easy run, but it was scenic and it was nice running with Jason. After the run, we found ourselves a nice spot to go hang out by the lake. Jason floated in the water and I sunbathed on the shore. The lake is gorgeous, but it's a lot different than what we're used to. There are no sandy beaches at all. It's very rocky - hence Table Rock Lake I suppose. But, it was nice and relaxing.  We brought a picnic lunch to enjoy. Here's what we gazed at while eating.     Not too bad huh? I...

Hot as Hell 7-miler, Shoe Shopping, Re-fueling

Holy Sh*t It's Hot 7 Mile Run I had thought I was going to take my workout to the gym today. Had it pretty much planned out, and was looking forward to sleeping in. What happened was that I woke up, wide-eyed awake, at just after 7. I had been feeling stupidly guilty for not attempting another morning outdoor run, blaming it on the heat. So I decided to redeem myself and get out there for a run. I brought along extra water in my cooler for post-run. I had a GU packet stashed in my pocked just in case. I was planning to just go slow and see how long I could go. I planned for at least 4 miles and hoped for 6 tops. No looking at my watch was my first rule. Forget about the time, just take it slow and easy. Thankfully there was a breeze today. That made such a big difference. Of course, it was already 90 degrees out so making a difference is a bit relative of course. I actually felt really pretty good for the first 3 miles. So I ended up pushing just a bit farther. On the return, ...

Resting and Shopping to Kick the Blues

Wraps on Wednesday Ok, so you guys all know me by now right...cereal was not going to really be dinner. I know it sounds silly, but I'd feel guilty for eating cereal for dinner. I know that makes no sense really. Anyway, I will say that I did not cook. I did not chop one single onion or bell pepper, I didn't even open the can of black beans that Jason used to make burritos. We had some slivers of various shades of bell peppers, about 1/4 a red onion, some beans, and some vegetarian chorizo and 3 whole-grain tortilla wraps. Saute up the ingredients, place on wraps, sprinkle with Daiya, fold up and crisp up on all side and that's how you make crispy burritos. Sorry, I was on strike so no pictures. But they were really good I will say. Maybe even better because I didn't lift a finger for once. Resting and Shopping This morning was a brisk one - 45 degrees. I know that's not cold to some, but for me, it may as well be snowing. At least the sun is out today. It...
