Honesty, Running and Cathe's Yoga Max

Dismal Run but Wonderful Family Time This weekend ended up being far better than I had expected. Initially, Jason and I had no plans. I was supposed to have lunch with my mom and sister next weekend to celebrate my mom's birthday, which was the 18th. Things changed and mom and sis ended up coming up on Saturday. Saturday started off with one of those dig-deep-to-finish runs. I had set out to do 4 easy miles. I wanted it to be slower, easier, just enjoying being outside. I ended up over-dressing. It was 32 degrees when I started the run, but it warmed up faster than I expected. I also encountered far more creepers (aka vagrants and un-savory characters) than usual, so that meant I instinctively ran faster, faster than intended, and faster than my body needed. I never got my breathing on track so I felt like I struggled the entire run to breathe easily and to even hit a nice rhythm. I had to stop at mile 2 to take off my gloves then I had to stop each mile after to try to reco...

Ouchie Legs and Fun Facts Friday - Hugs

Ouchie Legs Let's see, I guess I can do a quick recap of the past few days before getting to Fun Facts Friday. Wednesday I went out for a run after work. My plan was 6, but I kind of wanted 8 miles. I ended up compromising with 7 miles. I kind of had to reel it in a bit as my running partner was going to come over for some yoga. And my legs were screaming at me to stop anyway. I had done legs Tuesday night. So 7 miles on Wednesday was over-kill to say the very least. I had hoped the run would loosen them up. Um....not so much. "A" stopped by around 5:45 and we did the same flexibility set up I've been doing. She's having a major hamstring problem, so this was ideal for both of us. After the yoga session, I cleaned up, put on my compression calf sleeves, and Jason and I had dinner - curried veggies w/ tofu using the curry paste I made last week. Hopefully I'll get around to remaking, tweaking and posting the recipe soon. Thursday morning started off wit...

Thursday Things for Athletes

Recovery & Running Plans Yesterday my plan was to do weights after work. What happened was I felt worn out and decided to do some yoga instead. I figured I could use the additional stretching if nothing else. So, more of an active recovery day for me. Today the plan is to get in a run after work with my running buddy. It's really nice being able to run in the daylight now that it's not 90+ degrees. The only downfall is that there is definitely more traffic, so lots of stopping and starting. Of course, our plan is to take it easy, so that might end up being a good thing for us after all. Thursday Things I usually don't talk a lot about products I like. There are a few things I mention like my Triggerpoint Therapy Kit or my Cathe Friedrich DVDs . But today I've actually got a few things I've been using recently and liking that I'd like to share. I think it can be fun to hear about new products. I ordered these SLS3 Compression socks via Amazon last w...

Kale, Kabocha and Way to Go Wednesday

Non-Tempo Tuesday Getting up early for yesterday morning's run was painful. Not going to even sugar coat it. It was dark, warm-ish (63 degrees), windy, and did I mention early and dark?  The plan was for Jason and I to run to meet up with my friend A at her house. Then A and I would continue on our way and Jason would go his own way. He had a different mileage in mind. A and I did the same route as last Tuesday. It's fairly flat, just a few small hills.  I thought this would be a last tempo run for me. I thought it would be semi-easy because I didn't run yesterday and it wasn't hilly. I was wrong. My legs just felt so heavy and never really loosened up. The fact that it felt so warm was just flat out annoying too. A was having some knee and hamstring pain so we were kind of a sad pair.  But, we kept on going and got it done. I finished out 8 miles, not quite as fast as I'd hoped, but done and done. After work I actually made myself do some yoga before ...
