Cycling, Larabars & Bestowed Box Turn a Blue Day Around

Yesterday started off on kind of a down note. It was a Blue Monday for me. I tried not to wallow in it. It was an absolutely gorgeous day out - sunny, blue skies and upper 70's. I knew I didn't need to run, so I brought up the idea of biking with Jason. He agree that sounded like a good idea. Of course, once I committed, I immediately started to get nervous. This was only my sixth ride mind you. I still don't feel completely steady and have yet to figure out the true radius of my turns - in other words, I make obnoxiously wide turns for fear of cutting it too tight and falling. Rather than riding from the house, which would ultimately mean lots of traffic after work and crossing trolley tracks (the cause of my first fall), we drove across a bridge and started on the river trail itself. That definitely made me more comfortable - no cars to contend with. 14.5 miles and no falls = success It wasn't a fast ride, but it was a pretty good one overall. A) I didn't...

Kale Kabocha Soup and Thursday Things

Productive Procrastination Yesterday morning I woke up for all of two seconds when Jason got up to go swim at 5 am and then totally crashed back out until the alarm clock made me nearly jump out of bed. It's not normal for me to fall back asleep quite so soundly after waking up in the morning. Apparently I was really tired. I had thought I might get in my workout (weights & kickboxing) at lunch, but by 11 I was thinking of calling it a rest day. My plan changed to going to the grocery store after work. But then by about 3:30 I had decided working out sounded way better than battling the grocery store and after work crowd. Let's just say that was the most productive procrastination I had ever done. I did legs, shoulders, back, biceps and abs from Cathe's High Reps DVD and then did the MMA Kickboxing DVD for an hour workout. Luckily I had enough items to throw together a soup for dinner. I had a kabocha squash and some kale on its last leg. No white onion, but I di...

Product Reviews

So, now for those product reviews. I really enjoy reading reviews from fellow bloggers. It's nice to hear what other people think about a particular product before buying. It's also really nice to learn about new products that I may never have heard of or tried had someone not taken the time to write about them. So, I thought I would return the favor with a few reviews of my own. Review 1 - Healthy Cookies I'll start off with a sweet treat. I LOVE cookies. It's really sad that they aren't exactly healthy for me though. I did find these tasty treats at Whole Foods. The brand is Back to Nature . I had a coupon for buy one box of cookies and get a box of crackers for free, so why not... I chose the Granola Cookies - Cranberry Pecan . They are 100% whole grain and contain no hydrogenated oils, no high fructose corn syrup, and no artificial preservatives, flavors or colors. I absolutely LOVED these cookies. They aren't too sweet, slightly chewy, and completely delish...

Magnificent Monday

Lunchtime Run Today Jason got up to go swim at 5 am. While I was awake, I opted not to do my workout. I've got some serious DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) going on from my workouts this weekend. My legs just felt too have and too stiff to attempt a step workout. I'm glad I didn't try to push through because we ended up going for a 30-minute run at lunch. We had perfect weather again today. It was sunny and 70 degrees. The lunchtime run was great for loosening up my legs and giving me an energy boost. We did, however, do a trial run run with the dogs. Jason has been talking about wanting to take them running with us for ages. They can be a bit spastic though, and I am sooo afraid of getting tripped up and falling when one of them makes an emergency potty stop or stop and smell session. I am plenty klutzy on my own thank you very much. We have a route mapped out that is 1.5 miles from the start of our house back around. So we took them for a jog the first lap. They real...
