Training Run & Tempeh Thursday

Beautiful Day for a Run I hate to brag, but it was another gorgeous, spring-like day here today. Sunny with temps hovering at 70 degrees. Perfect for an outdoor run by the river. Though, I must admit that I really wasn't wanting to go run today. I debated with myself about changing up the running plan (plan? what's a plan???). But tomorrow is supposed to be rainy. I also had a feeling that the sunshine and fresh air would do me some good. I've been up and down with my mood recently. I know a lot of it has been stress from the car situation. Also, the upcoming race is on my mind of course. As expected, the run really boosted my mood. The wind had picked up quite a bit and it was in my face on the way out. I think that's probably better than having it in your face for the return though. Maybe....I did 4 miles then 4 gentle pickups. I'll be totally honest, it was supposed to be 2 miles and then the 4 pickups (hanging head...). No scolding please. I swear no more e...

Group Run Fun, More Running & Lifting

Group Run Recap Well, I must say that I am very happy that we went on the run with the group from Go! Running . The turnout was apparently larger than normal (average 10-15, with about 30 last night) most likely because of the enticing giveaways: free pair of Brooks shoes and a free Nightlife Brooks Jacket. Oh, and we all got 20% off any Brooks Nightlife Apparel - hello new shirts and shorts! It was a 4-mile route through a really nice, older neighborhood. Though, many of the old bungalows have been torn down with newer, larger homes erected in their place. But still, it's an old, established neighborhood - with lots of freaking hills. We got started and it was slow and choppy with everyone trying to settle into groups based on pace. Once that worked itself out, it was much better. I swear, 4 miles has never gone so quickly. I really wanted to keep running! If we had known the route, Jason and I would have likely added on 2 miles (or I wanted to anyway). Neither of us won the...

Fear: How Much Should We Have?

Klutzes Unite Ok seriously, I feel like I need to do a giveaway for bandages and/or helmets. Perhaps a few ER passes as well. Maybe all the klutzes in the world read my blog or everyone is a klutz at heart. Thanks for sharing your..um...missteps in life. We did indeed enjoy our Pizza Friday as usual. It's such an easy (and yummy) routine. Jason stuck with his BBQ and hot sauce combo and topped with sauteed Quorn, bell peppers, onions, and portobellos. My half included spinach, squash, sundried tomatoes, roasted red bell peppers and Quorn and the whole thing was topped with Daiya Vegan Mozzarella . Running and Lifting This morning I was determined to get in a run come hell or high water (or high temperatures). I got started around 8:30 and it was 82 degrees. The kicker was the humidity and dew point levels. The air felt like water. The run itself, 4 miles, felt great. It was seriously and "I can run all day" type of run with the exception of the heat and humidity. I...

Tofu 101

Thank You I wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes yesterday. I do feel much better today. The medicine has finally seemed to clear up the sinus drainage and my lungs feel back to normal. Do your lungs ever feel just totally shredded after a race? I have asthma, so I don't ever know if it's just me or everyone. Two on Tuesday In fact, Jason and I did an easy run at lunch, and I felt great. Although, I will admit that the humidity was through the roof. It was cold and dreary all weekend, but warmer this morning than it had been. I guess it's another weird front moving through. Anyway, after work, I decided to do just a short premix from Kick, Punch and Crunch plus the ab work (awesome stability ball work). I also stretched really well after. Tofu 101 Tuesday I had a request from Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga (I didn't forget) to perhaps talk about my favorite method for making or preparing tofu. I know some people believe in pressing their tofu and have f...

Truly a Good Friday

Good Day for New Weight Rotation & Hike It was incredibly nice being off work today. I still got up earlier than I would have like for a day off (7 am). Jason doesn't head to work until at least 8 so I took advantage of him being home to spot me for my chest presses. I got started on my new weight rotation this morning and it was a great workout. I did 3 sets of 5 of the following as straight sets. Chest - Flat bench dumbbell press Back - Double arm row Legs - Squats Hamstrings - Deadlifts Biceps - Hammer curls Triceps - Lying dumbbell extensions Legs - Step ups Shoulders - Military press After my weights I made PB&J&B Oatmeal . Apparently it was National Peanut Butter & Jelly day so good thing this was my breakfast huh? I made hummus and a carrot & cabbage salad that would be used for lunch. I ran a few errands and then met Jason back at the house around 11:30. Carrot and Cabbage Salad Ingredients: 4 carrots 1/2 cup Greek yogurt 1/4 head purple cabbage 2 tb...
