Sweet & Spicy Tuesday - Strawberries, Jalapenos, Barley & Seitan

Unplanned Rest Day Today ended up being an unplanned rest day for two reasons: 1) my legs are seriously heavy after Sunday's leg day and 2) I was quite frankly feeling lazy, plain and simple. Part of me feels a bit guilty, I won't lie. It was an absolutely gorgeous day out. Finally sunshine, temps in the mid-60's. I had my bag packed with my running gear. I was ready to go. Only, I wasn't. I flat out didn't want to do anything. Instead of working out, I ran a few errands so that I don't have to worry about them later in the week. I also made some more homemade seitan to freeze. So despite no workout, I felt fairly productive. I even got outside and took a few pictures of the plants that I potted on Sunday.   Heath tried to help ;-) Sweet & Spicy  During lunch, still thinking I might find the desire to go for a run, I started dinner. I had strawberries and jalapenos that I wanted to use for a salsa, so that was the base inspiration. Then I though...

2 Workouts & Vegan Take on Meat & Potatoes Dinner

2 on Tuesday  I had every intention of getting up this morning for a "get myself moving" kickboxing workout with abs. However, that did not happen. I just felt so worn out, so I slept another hour. I seriously think that I am just not destined to morning workouts. You'd think I was going to bed really late. But, that's not the case. I'm typically in bed reading by 8:30 and lights out by 9:30. Sigh. Anyway, I was feeling super fatigued most of the morning to be honest. I did take a Zyrtec for the sinus drainage so that might be part of the cause. Sinuses are still drippy though so it's obviously not doing the job. Anyway, Jason and I did get in a lunchtime run. I really almost backed out. But, I think it was the energy boost I desperately needed. It got me moving for starters. I spend my entire day sitting at a desk in front of a computer, most certainly not an energy boost (actually quite the opposite). It was super windy, and not quite 60 degrees when we s...

What Happened to My Motivation on Mexican Monday?

Unmotivated on Monday I had the hardest time peeling myself out of bed this morning. Jason got up to go swim at 5 am and there was just no way I was getting up. I fell back to sleep almost immediately in fact. I feel like I'm getting a cold or allergy crud so maybe that's the reason for the sluggishness. Today was supposed to be Upper + Plyo. The upper body exercises were done as supersets of 4 sets of 8 reps. SS#1 Chest - Flat bench flyes (supposed to have been incline but I goofed) Back - Dumbbell pullover SS#2 Shoulder - Arnold press Shoulder - Lateral raises SS#3 Biceps - Incline curls Triceps - Overhead extension SS#4 Split squats (added this in lieu of plyo, see reason below) Donkey kicks (with 8# DB) Early on in the day, I knew that I wasn't feeling just super energized. I wanted to go ahead and get the weights done before I somehow actually talked myself out of them entirely. Yes, I was seriously feeling that unmotivated. I sort of made a deal with myself, do ...

Two on Tuesday Cardio and More Grilling

Dressing Up and Dressing Down I really must comment as a whole on your comments from yesterday's post about going without makeup for a day or weekend. It's interesting that some find it a luxury to get to go without because it's so rare, and then others look forward to getting dolled up for the same rarity factor. It does sound like the consensus is that it's always fun to get dolled up and be a little bit girly, but it's also nice to occasionally not care. I guess it's all about perspective isn't it?! Two on Tuesday Speaking of perspectives...my personal perspective on morning workouts is that they're still no fun. Jason and I decided to run this morning as he was going to do weights at lunch. Also, it's starting to warm up quite a bit by lunch these days. It was still completely dark and about 55 degrees when we stepped out at 5:45 this morning. I felt rather disoriented for the first mile or so to be completely honest. We live in a historical dis...

Soggy Sunday = Leg Workout and Quinoa Veggie Cakes

Leg Day Sunday So today started with another bowl of PB&J&B Oatmeal . I have some serious DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) happening from yesterday's workout. Wow. Good thing today was legs. I used the drop set method again for everything except calves: 12, 10, 8, 6. Alternating front lunges Squats Alternating rear lunges Plie squats Deadlifts Step ups Calf raises - 3 sets of 25 turned out, parallel, turned outs After my workout, I did just half of Shock Cardio HIIT Pyramid and Yoga-style abs from Abs Circuit then stretched. Veggie Cakes on Sunday It's rainy, cold, and dreary here today. I had wanted to bake some bread and do some other cooking today. However, the oven is broken so that didn't happen. I did manage to get lots of laundry done, Jason vacuumed the area rugs, and I swiffered up the doggy dust bunnies. I also tried straightening up and organizing the room that I am now using as my weight room. This house had once been a duplex and that particular...

Monday = Mid-Day Workout and Salsa Dinner

Mid-Day Monday Workout  Ok, so the time change thing really sort of sucks. It was pitch black this morning when Jason's alarm went off at 5 am, at which time I promptly rolled over and dozed back off. It was STILL pitch black as I walked the 3 blocks to my office at 7 am. I know that I'll appreciate the additional sunshine tonight (especially since it is indeed sunny today), but the morning are really going to stink. Since I didn't get up and do my workout this morning, I decided to do it during my lunch break. I went home and did Cathe's Shock Cardio Athletic Step and then an ab workout. It was nice to get the added boost of energy from a mid-day workout at least. How is everyone else handling the time change? Salsa Kind of Dinner We bought a pineapple the other day so I decided to make a dish I haven't made in ages. It sort of reminds me of spring, probably the salsa aspect. Quorn Cutlets with Pineapple Salsa with Colorful Black Beans and Barley with Tomatoe...
