Meds = Spin = Teach + Red Bean & Quinoa Burgers

Off to the Doctor Well, I had such high hopes for the Mucinex D. While it's definitely helping my sinus stoppage and drainage, it's not easing up the headache at all. I am definitely maxing out on the ibuprophen right about now. I ended up breaking down and making a doctor's appointment. Thankfully they were able to get me in today. Though, I spent 45 minutes sitting on the exam table just waiting....and waiting. Then I saw the doc for maybe 10 minutes. Maybe if they started getting paid by the time they spent with a patient then they may actually take the time to "really" see you. Within minutes he said, and I knew he would, it was a sinus infection and automatically gave me antibiotics, which won't work unless it's bacterial, but he didn't check. Very blase about it. He also gave me a prescription for prednisone (steroid) for inflammation. At least maybe the steroid will help with this massive headache I've had. He seemed to think it should ...

Warm Winter Day

Thank You I really wanted to thank everyone for your kind words from yesterday's post. I know that most of my replies were simply "thank you" but your words and support really do mean a lot. I've had 14 years to reflect on what happened to my friend. I've written about it (would love to publish one day), I even sat through most of the trial. So while I think about what has happened, I am now able to talk about it more freely. Sometimes I wonder if that might startle people a bit...in terms of how to react. I know it's also hard to know what to say to someone when talking about something so tragic, so sad, and so serious. So thank you all. Cardio Only Day This morning I wide awake shortly after 5 am. I thought about trying to stay in bed for another hour, but knew I wouldn't really fall back asleep. So I did myself a favor and got up to get my cardio done. I was not planning on step aerobics at all today. But weights are just not in the cards for me t...

Jingle Belles Bash & Productive Sunday

All Dolled Up Last night we ended up joining our friends at the Jingle Belles Bash. It was a fundraiser event to raise money for the Centers of Youth and Families. We were both really glad we decided to get off our lazy rear ends and go to the event. It was kind of fun getting dressed up and going out rather than sitting on the couch in our PJs, per the normal Saturday night. Productive Sunday This morning I was super productive. It was really cold out today, so running wasn't even tempting. I decided to get some house chores done before hitting the weights and cardio. I swept, swiffered, ran some laundry, changed out dishes, cleaned mirrors, and vacuumed area rugs. Then it was time for my workout. I did chest from STS Meso 2 . This week the goal is to increase my weights to 75% of my 1 RM. The only exception is that for the first exercise that was done as a "double wave load" I was supposed to stay at 70%. Flat bench chest press - 12, 10, 8, 12, 10, 8 Flat bench...

Resting and Shopping to Kick the Blues

Wraps on Wednesday Ok, so you guys all know me by now right...cereal was not going to really be dinner. I know it sounds silly, but I'd feel guilty for eating cereal for dinner. I know that makes no sense really. Anyway, I will say that I did not cook. I did not chop one single onion or bell pepper, I didn't even open the can of black beans that Jason used to make burritos. We had some slivers of various shades of bell peppers, about 1/4 a red onion, some beans, and some vegetarian chorizo and 3 whole-grain tortilla wraps. Saute up the ingredients, place on wraps, sprinkle with Daiya, fold up and crisp up on all side and that's how you make crispy burritos. Sorry, I was on strike so no pictures. But they were really good I will say. Maybe even better because I didn't lift a finger for once. Resting and Shopping This morning was a brisk one - 45 degrees. I know that's not cold to some, but for me, it may as well be snowing. At least the sun is out today. It...

Group Run Fun, More Running & Lifting

Group Run Recap Well, I must say that I am very happy that we went on the run with the group from Go! Running . The turnout was apparently larger than normal (average 10-15, with about 30 last night) most likely because of the enticing giveaways: free pair of Brooks shoes and a free Nightlife Brooks Jacket. Oh, and we all got 20% off any Brooks Nightlife Apparel - hello new shirts and shorts! It was a 4-mile route through a really nice, older neighborhood. Though, many of the old bungalows have been torn down with newer, larger homes erected in their place. But still, it's an old, established neighborhood - with lots of freaking hills. We got started and it was slow and choppy with everyone trying to settle into groups based on pace. Once that worked itself out, it was much better. I swear, 4 miles has never gone so quickly. I really wanted to keep running! If we had known the route, Jason and I would have likely added on 2 miles (or I wanted to anyway). Neither of us won the...
