Trainer Tips for a Guiltless Thanksgiving

It's hard to believe, but Thanksgiving is just a couple of days away. While Thanksgiving is a day about giving thanks, it also tends to be a holiday all about indulging. Now, I'm not going to sit here and say, don't touch that pie and skip the rolls or avoid the fried turkey, but I am going to share a few tips to get you through the holiday without the post-feast guilt. Tips for a Guiltless Thanksgiving  Break fast. Don't skip breakfast or even your typical mid-morning snack trying to bank some calories. That'll only leave you hungry and more likely to mindlessly fill your plate. Tackle a race.  Participate in a Turkey Trot fun run/walk. It doesn't have to be a speedy 5K, it can be a family, fun event. Be active. Go for a walk at some point during the day with family or friends. It's a great way to visit and catch up. Skip "any day" foods. If your Aunt Sue makes some amazingly scrumptious dish this one and only time of the year, ...

Fun for Friday - Workout Life Lately

I know that I mention running here and there, but I've not really talked much about my workouts in a while. I used to post my weight workouts, my running miles, even cycling miles. So, for Fun for Friday , I thought I'd do a little run down on my workout life .  1. Running   I've been consistently hitting 40-43 miles per week and feeling good. However, I know it's time to take a nice back-off week and let my body recovery. I also know that summer is here and as the heat and humidity continue to go up, my running will become more difficult. The summer plan is to maintain a solid baseline and just try to enjoy running.  2. Cycling   I've yet to take my bike off the trainer. Jason put on the clip on pedals and I'm absolutely terrified of riding it now. However, with all the rain we've had, it's been great having the trainer option and for easy access for riding in the early mornings when I'm not running.  3. Weight Lifting   I fi...

Tips for a Healthier Thanksgiving

It's hard to believe that tomorrow is already Thanksgiving. That means Christmas is just around the corner. Wasn't it just summer? It seems that Thanksgiving has become more about the food than the actual giving of thanks. I can understand the food part to an extent. It's tradition. It's what we grew up having each holiday. It's the time when families actually take the time to gather around a table, together. But, it shouldn't be a total free-for-all to eat like it's our last meal. When did a holiday become a free pass for all things unhealthy? Don't get me wrong, I'll have my dad's manicotti or a holiday cookie in absolute moderation. But the rest of my meals for the day are very typical of how I eat day-to-day. My tummy usually thanks me too. I mean, admit it. How many times have you over done it and your tummy rumbles around the rest of the day? Yep, not fun. Don't worry, I'm not going to preach about not gorging ourselves on ...

Fun for Friday - Knocking Down Fear

I usually try to keep Fun for Friday posts light and fun. Today, I saw this pin and it sort of changed my thought process. This past year I vowed to live fuller, to take risks, make changes. I would say go big or go home, but I'm taking baby steps on that. I typically let fear hold me back. Fear of failure is a big one; fear of the unknown is then next one for me. My dreams of being a personal trainer elicit both of those fears in a major way. What if I fail my client? I'm not just putting together meals and workouts for myself. This is someone's life, their goals, their health. There's also the unknown about starting a new venture. Will it work, will it be too mush stress and pressure ( I'm not quitting my day job ). Is this just too much to take on. All unknowns until I try right? If I keep letting fear hold me back, then I'll never have the future I want. So, today, I'm officially announcing that I've started my own personal training busin...
