Birthday Weekend Recap - Eating, Running, Eating

Today is Wednesday, but also like my Friday with Thanksgiving being tomorrow. Can we collectively vote for 3-day workweeks every week? Since I ended up doing a healthy holiday tips post yesterday, I thought I would do a quick birthday weekend recap today. I could really sum it up as eating, running, eating if you need the abridged version. On Friday (my actual birthday), I had taken off work so that I could sleep in, be lazy, and just enjoy the day. A gift to myself if you will. Jason wanted to take me out for lunch, so we met up for a late lunch after a hair appointment. Later we ended up going out again for dinner at a restaurant just a couple of blocks from our house called  South On Main . I didn't get any pictures of the food, but it was all good. They definitely aren't famous for their vegetarian options, mostly serving meat dishes, but the options they had were quite good. Jason made it a point to let them know it was my birthday and to insist on ordering a dess...

Boston Part 1 - The Food

I won't even begin to lament on how hard it is to get back to reality after a vacation. Everyone knows that feeling. It's even harder when you had an amazing, whirlwind of a trip. I feel like it just flew by in a blur upon reflection. Of course, at the time, we were fully immersed in just enjoying. Thursday morning we were up super early for a 6:45 am flight to Boston. The upside of an early flight is that you have most of the day to still enjoy your destination. We landed in Boston just after 1 and were checked into the hotel by 2. The trip involved staying Boston Thursday night, sightseeing most of Friday, then moving on to our friends' house in Peabody for the remainder of the trip. We ended up staying at the  Copely Square Hotel , which was a wonderful choice for us. They were very accommodating as well by letting us check in early and also holding our luggage on Friday after we had to check out. During the day, they have an area with lemonade and flavored water s...

Thursday Thoughts - Running, Clouds, Food

Thursday Thoughts is very appropriate for the day. I feel like my thoughts are all over the place today. Well, this week really. I think that's apparent after yesterday's post . Thoughts on Running This morning I was up in plenty of time to go out for my scheduled 7-mile run. However, after recent incidents (like seeing a body, armed man, and falling), I've been really reluctant to run solo in the mornings. It's dark. The kind of dark that spooks you for no reason. The only hint of light is from the stars and moon, if it's clear, and street lamps. While there aren't often as many vagrants out on the streets at that time (they usually are out and about much later I've noticed), it's still a bit unsettling. I hate that I feel fearful, nervous, jumpy. I don't want to feel that way. I've gone through spells before where I felt suddenly fearful of running alone. Always wanting someone to run with me. Of course, when I do get out there and get ...

Fun for Friday - Week in FRIDAY

Right about now I'm trying not to completely stress myself out about the fact that I have not packed for my trip to Long Beach. I have pulled out what I'll sleep in/lounge in, my lifting gloves, iPod, and oatmeal. That has to count for something right? Because I have travel on the brain, I almost went with travel/vacation for Fun for Friday . But I thought I'd probably end up repeating myself from previous pre-travel posts. Mostly rambling about anxieties and silliness like that. You know, things I can't control and should let go of.  I decided to use Friday as my inspiration. As in the letters. So here is my week in FRIDAY. F oodie - While I didn't take time to take pictures other than on my phone for Instagram, we had some really good eats this week. Concoctions thrown together mostly because I haven't had time to make it to the store - like roasted veggies baked with homemade red sauce, quinoa, tofu ricotta, and Daiya. Ugly but tasty! An...
