Stormy Weekend and Rocky Running

This weekend was fairly low-key for us. I struggled with a too-warm, too-humid long run on Saturday. I started the run solo and got in 4 miles before meeting up with Jason. I was already struggling with my pace. I couldn't seem to keep it under control. I know it sounds stupid to say, but I couldn't seem to slow myself down to where I needed to be. I was just running wildly. Thankfully, Jason is much better at pacing so that helped. It also helped having some company to keep me out of my head. He dropped off after 4.5 miles and I finished out my run very much glad to be back at the house and done with 10.3 miles (those last .3 may as well have been another full mile in my mind). I'm definitely going to have to slow down and really adjust to the humidity again. I felt pretty crummy for a few hours after the run. I haven't felt bad after a run in a very very long time. In fact, probably this time last year readjusting to the temps again. We ended up going for lunch ...

Restful Weekend with Running, Cooking, Daffodil Spotting

This weekend turned out to be rather relaxing, and the weather turned out far better than originally forecast so that's a double bonus. Right now we're dog sitting for my sister and my dogs are loving Lily's bed. Maddie and Heath keep alternating control. But it wasn't all lounging around. I got in a pretty good 11-mile run Saturday. The temps were in the low 60's and the sun was out for the majority of the run. I just tried to enjoy the colors that are starting to emerge in the trees and flowers. Not a bad way to start the day. We ended up going out for pizza for lunch. Recovery right? Then we decided to get creative in the kitchen for dinner. I had bought wonton wrappers for pot stickers a while back. We finally decided to give it a shot. Neither of us had made pot stickers before. They're a little time-consuming to put together, but well worth it. And if you're in the kitchen with someone, it makes it way more fun. I had plenty of the ...

A Good Weekend for Running & Time with Friends

Once again, Monday rolled around way too quickly for my liking. The time change certainly didn't help with that. While I love the extra daylight in the evenings, I'm really not thrilled that it's still dark at 7 am again. Saturday morning started out with a great 10-mile run with Amy. The weather was just about perfect. Not too hot, not too windy, with gorgeous blue skies. We meandered over to the North Little Rock side of the river trail enjoying the water views of the river. We laughed and joked our way through the 10 miles so the run went by quickly. After spending a little time on my Triggerpoint Therapy kit and stretching, I decided I wanted to do a bit of yard work. I started off weeding in the back yard and pulling out all the dead plants from the garden. Then I got a little over zealous and decided I needed to rake the front yard. It's not a large front yard by any means. We only have one very large, very old tree. However, it's a Pin Oak. The leave...

Weekend Recap - Running, Gardening, Tabata

Wow, Monday again? How'd that happen so fast? Rhetorical of course because Monday always happens way faster than Friday. It was a pretty good weekend around here. Nice weather certainly helped. It usually does of course. I'm still trying to wrap my head around warmer running weather though. Saturday we set out for our run around 10 and it was about 60 degrees, sunny. But, I was going for 10 miles and knew it'd warm up significantly. Jason ran the first 5 miles with me. They were nice. We don't usually talk too much, well....I do, but then stop because I realize I'm annoying him. Even not talking, it's always nice having someone by your side. We hit the house at 5 miles. I took a quick potty breaks before heading out for the last part of my run. I assumed Jason was going to stretch then clean up. I had a great 2nd half to my run. I ran into several people who wanted to chat. Kind of awkward, but really pleasant too. I had several fun conversations on my r...

St. Patrick's Day Block Party

This weekend turned out to be pretty fantastic. The weather on Saturday was simply perfect - sunny, right around 80 degrees. Perfect weather for spending the day outdoors. I started my day of outdoors with a run. It was already 60 degrees and crazy windy. In other words, I was hot and ticked at the wind. I know it's totally irrational to curse wind. But I do; I did. Out loud. The run was good, but hard at the same time. I am always amazed at how hard running is after just taking about 12 days off. That doesn't seem like much, but somehow it is. But, I soaked up the sunshine and enjoyed all the newly blooming trees, bushes, flowers. Though, I should have planned my route better. The return was all south and west. Guess which way the winds were blowing. Next up was a St. Patrick's Day parade and block party. We had friends going downtown to watch the parade (they have kids) and we thought we'd meet up with them and just enjoy the day. The parade was ... well ... ...

Super Sunny Weekend - Running, Lifting, Relaxing

Super Saturday Yesterday turned out to be a great day. It was mostly about relaxing and enjoying the great weather really. I did get up and do a few house chores, but mostly...relaxing. We did get in a good run as well. We drove over to the Two Rivers Bridge to start the run. Jason wanted to run through the "woods" or the prettier part of the trail. I was a-ok with that. If you start from the Big Dam Bridge (usual starting point), it's 2 miles just to the Two Rivers Bridge. Normally, not a big deal. Injured...big deal. So, we got going with our run. I was just happy as a lark then Jason suddenly stopped. I thought he might have hurt himself or something bad. But he had lost the key to the car. We turned around and headed back the direction we came. Mind you, this was about 5 minutes into the run. Apparently he dropped the key at the very start of the bridge. So, the first .77 miles of the run was a bit chaotic. But, we found the key. After all of that, we got back ...
