Enjoying the Run and Way to Go Wednesday

I don't know what's going on with our weather this summer, but we're possibly hitting more record lows and record low highs again this week. After the crazy Polar Vortex , we quickly warmed up with heat indices around 105-109 over the weekend. See, that's the summer we're used to and enjoy complaining about. The upside was that the pool warmed back up, the downside was that it made for some tough weekend running. But apparently we've got another cool blast moving in and moving the humidity out. This morning the humidity was only about 70% and temps at 66 degrees. Hello amazing! I will admit that I was dragging a bit at the start of the run, but then I saw the sun starting to come up and the sky was spectacular. Sometimes you just need something beautiful to help get you motivated. The picture really does not do the sunrise the justice it deserves. But I didn't hesitate to stop and enjoy the views for a minute. Just simply breathe and soak it all in. T...

Thursday Thoughts from Sunrises to Weight Lifting

It's Thursday, and I've had some random thoughts, so we'll go with the theme of Thursday Thoughts - also known as "What's on My Mind." It's funny how many random, fleeting thoughts you have flitting around your brain constantly. Sometimes you remember them, most of the time you don't. And it's funny that it's usually the lesser important thoughts that somehow stick around. During my morning run on Wednesday, I took a route that put me close to the river for this spectacular sunrise. It made me question why more people don't get up early to enjoy this beauty. We only have so many sunrises to see in a lifetime. Speaking of, even though I was looking forward to "sleeping in" this morning, I felt like I had really missed out by not getting up earlier to run again. I often wonder why people are just so ugly to each other or feel the need to say something ugly for no reason. I saw a post shared on Facebook with the kids of ...

Fun for Friday - A Week in Letters

TGIF! Hope everyone's had a good week. Mine has been a little hectic, but all good. I got in some really great runs, a fun bike ride with Jason and Amy, and also enjoyed a great lunch with a good friend (she was my physical therapist) who unfortunately moved away. Even cooler, literally, I got in a great 8 mile run in unheard-of-for-July temps - 68 degrees. Um, what month is it and where do I live again? Not complaining though. It was nice not being drenched by mile 1. I've done something similar to this before, using the letters of FRIDAY to talk about the week. I thought I'd do it again just for fun (and 'cause I can LOL). F - Fitness: running, riding, lifting R - Recipe: Greek Style Kale Couscous Salad (will share on Tuesday) I - Inspiration: Inspired by my dad who refuses to let age define him D - Day break: 2 pictures of this morning's sunrise. A - Awe: In awe of the progress my niece is making in her fitness journey Y - Yikes: How on ea...

Thursday Things - Things I'm Enjoying

I opted not to do a Way to Go Wednesday yesterday. I didn't feel like I could do everyone justice. How do I give a shout out to every single person who ran Boston; or to every single blogger who wrote such amazing, beautiful tributes; or to the millions of runners who have been running in honor this week? I just couldn't. There's just so much inspiration out there right now. It is a little overwhelming, but such a wonderful thing to witness. But, it got me to thinking about the things I'm loving and enjoying this week. I think that's so important - remember to enjoy the little things, the moments. So, here's my list of things I'm enjoying this week. Bike ride with hubby on Sunday. Checking out this cookbook that a good friend gave me. Also enjoyed that I skipped a lunch workout and enjoyed lunch with her instead.  Watching these baby doves in our backyard.   Running with this crazy lady despite the heat and humidity we've ha...

Beautiful Sunrise for Morning Run

Sky On Fire This morning I peeled myself out of bed to get in a run before the sleet moved into town. "A" and I were going to run after work, but Mother Nature had other plans. She couldn't run in the morning, so I was going to head out solo. But, Jason said he'd give it a shot. So we headed out into the cold, windy morning around 6 am. The skies are starting to get lighter around 6:20 am though. Such a refreshing change. And as much as I hate the cold weather, there's something quite invigorating about a cold run. It was in the low 30's - not sure what the windchill was at that time, but looks like mid-20's - as long as we weren't heading north into the freezing, heavy wind, it wasn't too bad. What made it all worth it was the sunrise. It was simply spectacular. It looked like the sky was on fire with the deepest pink, almost red creeping up from the east. I wanted to take a picture, but didn't think I could get a good one with my phon...

I Love Running and Morning Sunrises

Angela at Happy Fit Mama had a great post this morning about the why she loves running. One of the reasons on her list was a morning sunrise. I always relish the sunrises when I go out for a morning run and am disappointed if it's overcast and I don't get to see one. There's just something so completely serene about the sun rising up in the east. It's like seeing a smile. This morning, I woke up around 5:30 to get in a run. Part of me was wishing I hadn't made plans to run so early. It was dark and cold and I had been snoozing soundly when the alarm went off. But I had made plans. Jason and I were going to start the run together, then I was meeting my friend somewhere around 2 miles into the run. No backing out. While the first mile was up hill and seemed to go on forever (the hill that is), once I got moving, I was glad to be out there. I saw a bunny (Jess/Jo) and I knew it was going to be a good run. The sky began to get lighter, slowly but surely. My fr...
