No Whimpy Wednesday

Working out Wednesday
So today I almost managed to talk myself out of my workout. Even worse, it was going to be embarrassingly easy too! Once I realized just how easy it was going to be to skip out, I knew I had to get my butt up to the gym ASAP. I'm glad I did because it ended up being a good workout in the end, and I had so much more energy after. The original intention was to do my weights then spin. I ended up running for about 35 minutes then hitting the weights. I'm in my 3rd week of the Total-Body Training workout and the number of sets increased. So today was 4 sets of 8 reps of each of the following exercises. It was a great workout. I went to complete failure for a couple of the exercises on the last sets, so I know I was pushing myself:

Shoulders - Arnold Press

Quads - Hack Squats

Biceps - Incline Dumbbell Curls

Triceps - Overhead Tricep Extension

Chest - Incline Barbell Press

Back - Chinups

What is your favorite weight exercise? I love working out biceps and back.

Easy Dinners Welcome
Even though I was feeling energized after my workout, I had absolutely no desire to make dinner. Creative juices have dried up today. It's night's like this when I'm really happy that I take the time to make and freeze up lentil burgers. So dinner was lentil burgers with baked sweet potato "fries." I topped the burgers as I almost always do with spinach and roasted red bell pepper. I did use some fantastic vidalia onion mustard that I picked up along the way. I'm a sucker for sauces of all kinds.

Is there any sort of food or condiment that you can't ever pass up?

  3. Heather,

Definitely leg exercises. I am a glutton for squats, they are my favorite and make me feel so strong. Followed closely by anything for calves. I love working my legs.

Condiments. Hmmmm. Definitely mustard of all sorts and types. I have been known to have 10 varieties in the frig at one time, and my husband is not a fan. My all time favorite is one I have been obsessed with for years called Sweet and Rough Mustard by The Silver Palate. Spicy and sweet with whole mustard seeds, it is a great mustard.

    have a great evening,
    Alicia

  5. Kris | iheartwellness.com it's definitely a great feeling to get the much-needed 2nd wind. Even better when it's an awesome workout that you were initially going to blow off!

  6. Hey Alicia ! I actually really like to work my calves too. I did extra calf work yesterday that I forgot to make note of. I like mustards too. I get that from my dad; he always has a million jars open as well (well, so do I to be honest)! They can be so incredibly flavorful. That Sweet and Rough Mustard sounds great!

  8. Thanks for stopping by Naomi ! Love your blog by the way. I like shoulders too actually. It's easier to see definition in them faster than anywhere else I think. Once I started trying real mustards, I can't even think about that yellow stuff! LOL.

  9. I love doing biceps and shoulders for some reason - I think its because that's where you get the most bang for your buck, you know? I did a back/chest workout this AM (meso 3 STS) and, while I love the workout, back and chest aren't my favorite for some reason, weird huh?

  10. Jessica (eatdrinkbreathesweat) I totally agree with you about biceps & shoulders! From years of ballet, I've always had nice shoulders so I guess I prob take that for granted. I've recently become slightly obsessed w/ back & I think it's b/c I don't have the same back strength/muscles as I did when I danced all the time. I do not know how you do meso 3 in the AM. I'm not awake enough to lift that heavy!

  11. What a great workout!

I cannot pass up salsa. It is my favorite condiment in the world...is it considered a condiment??

  12. Hi Ameena ! Thanks so much for stopping by. I think salsa can be a condiment! I have 3 various flavors in my cabinet and 2 in my fridge right now! I love it over salads even on my veg. burgers. I'm a book lover too, so I'm going to definitely check out your reviews.

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
