Product Reviews

So, now for those product reviews. I really enjoy reading reviews from fellow bloggers. It's nice to hear what other people think about a particular product before buying. It's also really nice to learn about new products that I may never have heard of or tried had someone not taken the time to write about them. So, I thought I would return the favor with a few reviews of my own.

Review 1 - Healthy Cookies
I'll start off with a sweet treat. I LOVE cookies. It's really sad that they aren't exactly healthy for me though. I did find these tasty treats at Whole Foods. The brand is Back to Nature. I had a coupon for buy one box of cookies and get a box of crackers for free, so why not... I chose the Granola Cookies - Cranberry Pecan. They are 100% whole grain and contain no hydrogenated oils, no high fructose corn syrup, and no artificial preservatives, flavors or colors. I absolutely LOVED these cookies. They aren't too sweet, slightly chewy, and completely delish! The down fall is that they are so good because they are 130 calories each (not little cookies at least). It's really hard to only eat one of these. So, I'll likely not keep them in the house because of the temptation factor.

Review 2 - Fruit Bar
I picked up a couple of these Think Fruit bars on clearance at Kroger. Sadly, I found out that they are on clearance because ThinkProducts will no longer be making the fruit bars. However, they do have many other bars to choose from. Now that I have tried one of their products, I will definitely try the others. I had picked up the Apple Noni Nourish flavor. It was a really dense, filling bar made with natural ingredients starting with dates, cashews, apples, raisins, and more natural goodies. Because of the fruit, the sugars are high, but they're not fructose and other such sweeteners at least. I really enjoyed this bar and think that it would be one that I could easily re-create, which is great since they aren't making this one anymore. Have you tried any of the ThinkProducts? Yes, I had a bite before remembering to take a picture. Oops.

Review 3 - Another Bar
I received a special package from Amie at The Healthy Apple, a package containing 4 Larabar Minis. Today I finally broke down and tried one. I chose the Peanut Butter and Jelly as my first ever Larabar tasting. Their products are all gluten, dairy, and soy free and made with whole ingredients. Must taste bad right? Wrong.  I loved it. I was afraid it might be too sweet based on the name. Nope, not at all. It was the perfect mixture of flavors and sweetness. These are dense bars and fairly high in calories so they could be a bit dangerous because they taste so good. I can't wait to try the other flavors now!

  1. I love lara bars-- the plain old pb flavor is my favorite!

Thanks for the reviews of those other products-- I've eyed those cookies I might have to pick up a box :-)

  2. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg those cookies were really really good. They have several different flavors, even some Girl Scout-ish flavors.

  3. Thanks for the reviw... You're right, it is nice to see what other people think!

  4. Thanks for the review. I've been wanting to try the Larabar but have been a little leery. Just not knowing what to expect! Now I think I'll try them with our next grocery trip!!!

  5. Lauren @ A Fit Foodie Glad the review helped with your decision! I don't think you'll be disappointed in them at all. I've not seen a bad review. My hubby just ate the coconut cream pie flavor and he loved it.

  6. great reviews and info...i hate the think thin bars, the protein bars and didntt know they even made a fruit bar, but sounds like not for long...sigh.

and thx for your contest entries!

  7. Hey Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga I have not tried the other think products at all. I was really disappointed to learn that the fruit bars are no longer being made. what did you not like about the others? Just ick? Thank you for having the contest! ;-)

  10. Hey! Thanks for stopping by my blog! Nice to 'meet' you. Yeah Katy Mills was brilliant, but I bought back wayyy too much stuff. Do you live in Houston?

I love my larabars, but I reckon it might be because I don't get access to them usually?

  11. Hi Robyn @ Girl on Raw ! Nope, don't live in Houston. Just had friends who did.

Plantar Fasciitis Woes & Way to Go Wednesday Shout Outs

I wanted to thank everyone again for your many congratulations on completing and getting a PR at my recent half marathon. The support and words mean so much to me.

My legs feel absolutely fine after the race. I could have run yesterday if it weren't for my left foot. So right now I'm trying to heal my left foot. I mentioned that I've been having problems with plantar fasciitis in that foot and that it was the cause of much pain during the race. Since the race, I've been unable to walk on it very well. Lots of hobbling going on.

I've been icing it and trying to keep it elevated. But, I noticed that it's started to get some bruising, not horrible, but worrisome. Not sure if it's better or worse for it to be discolored vs red and swollen. However, this could be indicitive of a tear.
But, my bigger concern with the bruising is that indication that there's been bleeding. Being on Xarelto for the blood clot means my blood doesn't clot very well these days…

My Home "Gym", Super Saturday With Quinoa Granola Bars

My Home "Gym"
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I had a request to do a post about my home gym. After mulling it over, I thought it was a really great idea. I can show everyone that you can indeed get really great results without having to spend a fortune on a home gym. Don't get me wrong of course, I would LOVE to have the money and room to have a treadmill, a nice weight machine set up, squat rack, even a barbell. Yes, you read that, no barbell (for now). I don't' even have a bar to do chin-ups or pull-ups. The ones that are supposed to fit every doorway do not in fact fit doorways built in 1890 apparently.

I must also say that I do have a gym membership that I almost only use for the cardio equipment. It was not until this January that I actually did weights at the gym. So, while I do have gym access, I still choose my home "gym" mostly out of convenience.

Back to my gym: I also wish I had a much larger room. The room used for weights is rat…

Tex-Mex Quinoa Stuffed Poblano Peppers

Pumped Up Workout
I'll readily admit that I did not want to go to the gym today. I had no real excuses to not go though. I was just feeling lazy to be honest. But, I did myself a favor and made myself go. I knew I'd regret it if I didn't go.

I think part of my reluctance stems from a bit of boredom. I've gotten into a rut again with workouts. That and sometimes I just am flat out tired of seeing the inside of that place. But, that part aside, boredom all the way. So, I decided to try to do something a little different for my biceps/triceps workout. It's nothing earth-shattering. But it's a switch up from my typical 3 different supersets done as 3 sets of 8 reps....yawn.

So, today I did 4 sets of 8 reps for two supersets then I did dropsets at the end starting with heaviest weight for 6 reps, then increasing the number of reps by 2 as I decreased the weights. I did this 4 times (6, 8, 10, 12).
