Wowzer Wednesday

Early Morning Kickboxing
This morning Jason got up to go swim at 5 am. I was too much awake to fall back asleep for an hour, so I went ahead and got up to exercise. I did Cathe's Kick, Punch and Crunch plus the stability ball abs (awesome ab work). It was a nice workout that gave me the needed boost of energy to start my day.

What a Wednesday
Oh and I definitely needed the energy. It was a very hectic and stressful kind of morning. I have some work projects that are a bit problematic; I've also been having major email issues at work too so that complicates it all even more. Oh gotta love technology right?

To top it off, we paid the remaining balance on our condo rental yesterday. I got confirmation this morning, but the contract was for the wrong dates! We had both asked off from work   already, made doggy sitting arrangements, etc. to be gone June 5-12. The contract said June 12-19. So, I had a mild (ok more than mild) panic attack and near meltdown. Thankfully, the condo owner had not booked our week, which makes me think that he just entered the wrong dates in the contract. I sure hope we don't get there and are greeted by another couple staying too!

Sometimes there are just those weeks when things keep slipping up somehow. Nothing too major, but just enough to stress you out. Thankfully it's all either rectified or minor at least. Do you ever have those weeks? Not just days, but weeks...

I just keep reminding myself of all that I do have to be thankful for. I'm very glad to report that the good far outweighs the bad.

Grilling Time
Tonight we really wanted to grill out so we did Grilled Asparagus with a side of Smashed Cauliflower (in lieu of smashed potatoes) and Quorn Naked Chik'n Cutlets grilled in foil packs.

For the smashed cauliflower, I just steamed until soft then pureed in the food processor with soy milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and nutritional yeast flakes.

For the Quorn patties, I put them in foil packets with white wine, parsley, a lemon pepper season blend, and sliced lemons. This kept them moist for grilling.

This was a very nice, satisfying meal. It almost seemed a little decadent for a Wednesday evening.

I totallly know what you mean about having "one of those weeks" - stress city lately for me too! But you're right, when you step back and think about it, it's not nearly as bad as it could be. Sooo easy to focus on the wrong things sometimes! You must be totally excited about your trip now that the date snafu is all worked out ;)

  5. Don't feel bad I have been having one of those years. Sometimes you just need to go with the flow. Not the easiest thing for me to do. ;-)

Glad you got things squared away with the condo so quickly and easily.

Dinner looks great and very satisfying.

    talk to you later,
    Ali

  6. Yikes, that stuff adds up! Glad you got things worked out! Can I tell you a secret? I am kind of afraid of cauliflower mash. I almost did it last week and then I ended up eating it steamed. I tend to do that with my veggies. I really need to try it.

  10. Jolene We'll be heading to Perdido Key, FL.

Jessica @ EatDrinkBreatheSweat Exactly! Gotta stop and reassess sometimes.

Kelsey @ Snacking Squirrel I have to really stop myself from losing it over things like that. I realize that it's typically not worth the meltdown if I just calm myself down LOL. I used to hate asparagus actually. Now I just love it! I could eat it several times a week easily.

Kalli @ Fit and Forty Something I am very lucky that he hadn't booked that week. Makes me think he just had the dates wrong on the contract is all. Now let's just hope no one else is there when we show up!!!

Alicia @ Vegan Epicurean Going with the flow is so much easier said than done isn't it! ;-)

Sarena @ The Non-Dairy Queen This is only the 2nd time I've made it myself. I was always leery of it too. The key is to make sure it's not too wet when you go to puree or mash it up. You only need the tiniest bit of soy/almond/rice milk.

Tricia @ Endurance Isn't Only Physical Thanks girl. I'm really impressed with how easy and tasty it is. Even the hubs commented on how good it was.

Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga I'm all for blaming this week on the full moon!

Janetha @ Meals & Moves Yikes - triple charged!!! So you've basically already paid for it LOL ;-)

  12. The chik'n cutlets look tasty. Do you like the flavor of the brand you purchased? I sometimes find it hard to find meat substitutes that don't taste weird..you know.
    Looks delish!

Tina @ Tina Bit of Faith Fitness and Fun LOL - glad you understand about "well-planned out vacations"!

  17. I love Cathe! Sometimes I just watch her on TV because she is so amazing! I feel lazy, watching others workout lol! But I get great ideas when I teach Group Exercise classes.

Your dinner looks delicious and nutritious!

  18. I love the mashed cauliflower instead of taters! Ruby Tuesday actually has that on their menu, or used to at least.

  19. How absolutely amazing does that look! i really need to try smashed cauliflower instead of potatoes.

Plantar Fasciitis Woes & Way to Go Wednesday Shout Outs

I wanted to thank everyone again for your many congratulations on completing and getting a PR at my recent half marathon. The support and words mean so much to me.

My legs feel absolutely fine after the race. I could have run yesterday if it weren't for my left foot. So right now I'm trying to heal my left foot. I mentioned that I've been having problems with plantar fasciitis in that foot and that it was the cause of much pain during the race. Since the race, I've been unable to walk on it very well. Lots of hobbling going on.

I've been icing it and trying to keep it elevated. But, I noticed that it's started to get some bruising, not horrible, but worrisome. Not sure if it's better or worse for it to be discolored vs red and swollen. However, this could be indicitive of a tear.
But, my bigger concern with the bruising is that indication that there's been bleeding. Being on Xarelto for the blood clot means my blood doesn't clot very well these days…

Pumped Up Workout
I'll readily admit that I did not want to go to the gym today. I had no real excuses to not go though. I was just feeling lazy to be honest. But, I did myself a favor and made myself go. I knew I'd regret it if I didn't go.

I think part of my reluctance stems from a bit of boredom. I've gotten into a rut again with workouts. That and sometimes I just am flat out tired of seeing the inside of that place. But, that part aside, boredom all the way. So, I decided to try to do something a little different for my biceps/triceps workout. It's nothing earth-shattering. But it's a switch up from my typical 3 different supersets done as 3 sets of 8 reps....yawn.

So, today I did 4 sets of 8 reps for two supersets then I did dropsets at the end starting with heaviest weight for 6 reps, then increasing the number of reps by 2 as I decreased the weights. I did this 4 times (6, 8, 10, 12).

Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises
Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain.

I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation.

And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles.

Have any of you tried dry…
