Leg Day & Family & Pool Time

Leg Day
This morning I got up and did legs then just 2 of the boxing combos from MMA Boxing and the abs. I had a pretty good leg day. Though, I must admit that I'm not happy with my legs. They just aren't terribly defined, and I can't seem to build any hamstring muscle to save my life. For legs I did the following as supersets, 3 sets of 8 reps:

Plie squats

Static lunges
Calf raises (I did 15 reps for these)

Step ups

Slide back rear lunge (using paper plate and dumbbells, 2 sets of 8 reps as straight set)
Weight donkey kicks - 2 sets of 16 reps

It was a good workout over all.

Family Time & Pool Time
Today we went to see my dad and step-mother's new house and celebrate Father's Day. They were busy trying to move last weekend, so we didn't get to get together. We had a great visit, and they are so excited about their new house. They are like kids in a candy store giddy! I must admit a huge jealousy of their storage space. It's sort of funny to be jealous of storage space ;-) But, our house was built in 1890, and we have absolutely zero storage. Apparently they didn't shop quite like I shop back then. Hmmm.

After we got home (around 3), Jason and I headed directly to the pool to finish off the day. After about an hour and a half, we figured we should probably get dinner going. Grilling seemed appropriate, so we made Grilled Tofu & Veggie Sandwiches with grilled sweet and baking potato "fries." There really isn't much of a recipe. I marinated the tofu in a mango ginger habanero sauce I had on hand. The veggies included yellow squash, zucchini, and red and green bell peppers and topped with the Soy Kaas Montery Jack "Cheese." Pretty simple, but so good.

I hope everyone has had a great weekend!

  1. Hi there, great blog! Sounds like it was a great workout and that food looks delish!

  2. Killer leg workout I am definitely saving that one!

  3. Sounds like a great day to me. Love the sound of this workout. Thanks for sharing.

Since our house was built in 1896 I can relate to your jealously over storage space. How could someone live without closets? I will never understand that one.

How nice to finish your day in the pool. Now I am jealous. ;-)

    talk to you later,

  4. Ahhhh, nothing better than sweet potato fries! Well, actually yes, the pool is probably the fact that you had both today sounds like a fantastic day! :)

  5. That sandwich looks SO tasty! Yum! Sounds like you had a fun weekend!

Re: kale salad-- I used to be intimidated by it, and thought it would taste gross, but "massaging" it really does mellow out the flavor, somehow! Give it a try!

  6. I have actually never grilled tofu before!! Sounds like a perfect dinner.. I'll have to try it :)

  7. AnonymousJune 27, 2010

I love sweet potato fries - yum! Also, I love grilling tofu - such a great way to eat it!

  8. Dinner sounds delicious! I hear ya on the storage space...there is never enough! I wish m legs were more toned too! Mostly my booty and the front of my thighs. Let me know if you come up with some magical potion! Have a great night!

  9. i guess we both celebrated fun belated father's days :) and good old family time!!

    and sweet taters too :P

im always jealous of ppls storage space. all these thoughts burst into my head about what i could transform it into.. like mini makeovers lol <3

  10. I need to do this leg workout!! Sounds freaking amazing!

3 o'clock pool time sounded wonderful and this dinner....perfect summer meal!

  11. I miss the pool, I dont remember the last time I was in sad is that, and I live in Los Angeles where its 72 and sunny all year round. My dad comes home tonight so I'm celebrating fathers day late as well. As for legs, I have the opposite problem, they are very muscular, although its mainly genetics. I am a pro at the step mill, but I feel like they are TOO bulky. I need my abs to get flat and buff up my spaghetti arms!

  12. "Apparently they didn't shop quite like I shop back then. Hmmm. "--LOL!

All CA houses are tight and cramped on storage too! It's good i hate clutter...there is no where to store it!

  13. Those grilled veggies look so delicious, great dinner! My house is a custom built home and the people that built it must not have liked to shop either...LOL...small closets and I just can't understand that!

  14. Great workout! I bet your quads are growing, btw. Mine only pop when I'm really, really, lean so sometimes I just go on faith that those suckers are building even when I can't see em!

Sarena @ The Non-Dairy Queen LOL - If I come up with a fantastic magic potion I'll be one rich lady ;-)

Kelsey @ Snacking Squirrel Sounds like we had very similar days! Oh my mind was in overdrive thinking of what I would do with my dad's house.

Kris @ iheartwellness This workout actually went by pretty quickly I must say. Let me know if you ever give it a shot. I think 3pm pool time should be a daily must ;-)

Eden's Eats I just can't imagine summer without my pool. I shouldn't complain too much about my legs. When I danced (ballet) they were really big for my size and I couldn't find jeans to save my life.

Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga I will say that I've gotten super creative as to where and how things are stored!

Bela @ It's Life, Max it Out If I ever build a house, it's going to have some major custom storage!!

  16. I'm gonna knock you out...mama said knock you out!! look at you go girl!

How tasty are fresh veggies in the summer, the best! Nice dish:)

  17. I need to let my aunt and cousin know about this tofu sandwich...deli meat is rather expensive here, and they love their tofu! :-)

What a leg workout! Have a great Monday!

  19. I need to learn your fry technique!! You are always posting these deliciously perfect looking fries that look store bought, but I'm pretty sure you are making them from scratch. Teach us your technique! :)

Plantar Fasciitis Woes & Way to Go Wednesday Shout Outs

I wanted to thank everyone again for your many congratulations on completing and getting a PR at my recent half marathon. The support and words mean so much to me.

My legs feel absolutely fine after the race. I could have run yesterday if it weren't for my left foot. So right now I'm trying to heal my left foot. I mentioned that I've been having problems with plantar fasciitis in that foot and that it was the cause of much pain during the race. Since the race, I've been unable to walk on it very well. Lots of hobbling going on.

I've been icing it and trying to keep it elevated. But, I noticed that it's started to get some bruising, not horrible, but worrisome. Not sure if it's better or worse for it to be discolored vs red and swollen. However, this could be indicitive of a tear.
But, my bigger concern with the bruising is that indication that there's been bleeding. Being on Xarelto for the blood clot means my blood doesn't clot very well these days…

My Home "Gym", Super Saturday With Quinoa Granola Bars

My Home "Gym"
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I had a request to do a post about my home gym. After mulling it over, I thought it was a really great idea. I can show everyone that you can indeed get really great results without having to spend a fortune on a home gym. Don't get me wrong of course, I would LOVE to have the money and room to have a treadmill, a nice weight machine set up, squat rack, even a barbell. Yes, you read that, no barbell (for now). I don't' even have a bar to do chin-ups or pull-ups. The ones that are supposed to fit every doorway do not in fact fit doorways built in 1890 apparently.

I must also say that I do have a gym membership that I almost only use for the cardio equipment. It was not until this January that I actually did weights at the gym. So, while I do have gym access, I still choose my home "gym" mostly out of convenience.

Back to my gym: I also wish I had a much larger room. The room used for weights is rat…

Tex-Mex Quinoa Stuffed Poblano Peppers

Pumped Up Workout
I'll readily admit that I did not want to go to the gym today. I had no real excuses to not go though. I was just feeling lazy to be honest. But, I did myself a favor and made myself go. I knew I'd regret it if I didn't go.

I think part of my reluctance stems from a bit of boredom. I've gotten into a rut again with workouts. That and sometimes I just am flat out tired of seeing the inside of that place. But, that part aside, boredom all the way. So, I decided to try to do something a little different for my biceps/triceps workout. It's nothing earth-shattering. But it's a switch up from my typical 3 different supersets done as 3 sets of 8 reps....yawn.

So, today I did 4 sets of 8 reps for two supersets then I did dropsets at the end starting with heaviest weight for 6 reps, then increasing the number of reps by 2 as I decreased the weights. I did this 4 times (6, 8, 10, 12).

Alternating bicep curls
Double-arm overhead triceps extensions
