More Kickboxing & Heading Out on Week Night

Morning Kickboxing
Jason got up at 5 am to go swim this morning, so I peeled myself out of bed to get in my workout. I did Cathe's Kick, Punch and Crunch with the stability ball abs. It was a great workout and gave me the energy boost I needed to get the day started. In all honesty, even if Jason hadn't gotten up, I was planning on getting up early to get in another morning workout. I have plans this evening so I knew I did need to get it done. Kickboxing, in my opinion, is a great morning workout. Not too complicated, no chance of falling over or off the step...

I'm still in the market for more kickboxing workouts as I'm really enjoying them. Oddly, I used to not. I may end up having to track down a gym that offers classes. No Amy Bento - but has anyone tried Kelly Coffey-Meyer's latest kickboxing workout? Any other instructors??

Out on a Week Night
After work I am going over to a friend's house for a girly party: jeans and purses. I've never been to one of these parties. The last thing I need is shopping temptations! However, I do need a new purse in a bad way, plus I'll get to catch up a bit with a friend. So....why not. I'm really such a homebody during the week that this will be good for me. It's something I need to do more often, get out and enjoy...period. Not just wait until the weekend.

The party starts at 6, so dinner will end up being later than normal tonight. I really prefer to eat well before 7 pm. But, I'm trying to just go with the flow and enjoy the evening rather than stick to my rigid schedule. I so rarely do anything on week nights, so this will be good for me. Jason said he'd take care of dinner. He's going to do sweet potato "fries" with my Black Bean & Quinoa Burgers (recipe here). Simple, but tasty. A good mid-week meal if you ask me.

Since I have made this meal several times, and in order to get the post done before the party, I'm going to reuse a photo - hope you don't mind. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do right ;-)

Have a great evening!

Have fun tonight! Jeans and purses - sounds dangerous but SUPER fun and worth it on a "school night" and all. ;) Enjoy it!! As for kickbox workouts - it's too bad you can't buy the Kick DVDs we use to learn new routines, you'd love them - KILLER.

  2. AnonymousJune 23, 2010

I'm actually going to a cookout tomorrow night :) I never do things on weeknights.

    Have fun tonight!!

  3. AnonymousJune 23, 2010

i am with you....i need to avoid shopping temptations but i have gone to purse parties and they usually have great stuff!

  4. yum! And I hope you grab something great at the party - you can never have too much clothing or too many bags, right? ... right?!?

  5. You know you need to share a picture of the new bag(s) tomorrow right? I hope you had a great time on your weeknight out. That is SO not like you. ;-)

  6. Have fun out and about tonight! It feels good to get out of the house on some week nights, doesn't it??

Oooo I hope you find a purse!

  7. AnonymousJune 23, 2010

Have fun at the party. My only request is that if they are selling "fake" purses, please don't buy them.

Cardio kick boxing classes are so much fun. I used to do it at my old gym.

  8. Those parties are fun! I like getting designer jeans for cheap! Thats a score. :) Way to go with the flow. We need that sometimes.

  9. Have fun at your party! Hope you come home with something cute!

  10. I have tried some of Kelly's workouts and don't really like them Jess said, Kick is seriously the toughest kickboxing workout ever. they should offer them as DVDs!

  11. Have fun tonight! I am a home body on the weeknights too! I don't mind it though.

I agree with kickboxing in the morning. I like it since it gets my heart rate up and works on some basic muscle toning!

    Have fun!

  12. A girl can never have too many bags :] I really need to get back into kick boxing!

  13. im the same way.. 7pm is my cut off for a meal.. otherwise it just wont digest and i have to stay up later or i know i'll be tossing and turning all night.

but have a great time at the party! im sure u'll have a blast!

    xoxo <3

  14. Nothing better than jeans and purses for a girl ;) Show us your loot tomorrow!

  15. Have fun! I am the same way about going out during the week, I hardly ever do. It is fun once and a while and definitely makes the week go by faster!
Those burgers look delish by the way!
    Hope you find a purse.

  16. Hooray for going out on a weeknight! And yes 7pm is the absolute latest I can eat dinner!!

  17. That's great that you are going out and having fun, especially on a weeknight! I only do that occasionally but always have fun when I do. I need to get out there more too!

  18. I know I don't normally do this - but I'm going to do just one mass reply comment today (kind of behind)!!

You guys are the best! Glad I'm not the only week night homebody ;-) Too bad we're not all centrally located and we could get out of the house together!

Thanks for the kickboxing comments too - Jessica/Jolene - any chance of snagging me a copy???!!!!

  19. I know I am late to the party but I hope you had a fun night last night! :)

  20. I've been dying to try kickboxing but haven't been able to find a class that fits my schedule so I do everything else. Maybe I'll have to try it at home! I printed out the quinoa/black bean burger recipe and I can't WAIT to try it. In fact I think I already have all the ingredients. Love that!

  21. Sounds like a fun party :) Shoes & purses....perrrrfect!!
I haven't tried any kickboxing videos, but I do LOVE kickboxing in general.

  22. How was the party??? Did you purchase a purse??

Plantar Fasciitis Woes & Way to Go Wednesday Shout Outs

I wanted to thank everyone again for your many congratulations on completing and getting a PR at my recent half marathon. The support and words mean so much to me.

My legs feel absolutely fine after the race. I could have run yesterday if it weren't for my left foot. So right now I'm trying to heal my left foot. I mentioned that I've been having problems with plantar fasciitis in that foot and that it was the cause of much pain during the race. Since the race, I've been unable to walk on it very well. Lots of hobbling going on.

I've been icing it and trying to keep it elevated. But, I noticed that it's started to get some bruising, not horrible, but worrisome. Not sure if it's better or worse for it to be discolored vs red and swollen. However, this could be indicitive of a tear.
But, my bigger concern with the bruising is that indication that there's been bleeding. Being on Xarelto for the blood clot means my blood doesn't clot very well these days…

My Home "Gym", Super Saturday With Quinoa Granola Bars

My Home "Gym"
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I had a request to do a post about my home gym. After mulling it over, I thought it was a really great idea. I can show everyone that you can indeed get really great results without having to spend a fortune on a home gym. Don't get me wrong of course, I would LOVE to have the money and room to have a treadmill, a nice weight machine set up, squat rack, even a barbell. Yes, you read that, no barbell (for now). I don't' even have a bar to do chin-ups or pull-ups. The ones that are supposed to fit every doorway do not in fact fit doorways built in 1890 apparently.

I must also say that I do have a gym membership that I almost only use for the cardio equipment. It was not until this January that I actually did weights at the gym. So, while I do have gym access, I still choose my home "gym" mostly out of convenience.

Back to my gym: I also wish I had a much larger room. The room used for weights is rat…

Tex-Mex Quinoa Stuffed Poblano Peppers

Pumped Up Workout
I'll readily admit that I did not want to go to the gym today. I had no real excuses to not go though. I was just feeling lazy to be honest. But, I did myself a favor and made myself go. I knew I'd regret it if I didn't go.

I think part of my reluctance stems from a bit of boredom. I've gotten into a rut again with workouts. That and sometimes I just am flat out tired of seeing the inside of that place. But, that part aside, boredom all the way. So, I decided to try to do something a little different for my biceps/triceps workout. It's nothing earth-shattering. But it's a switch up from my typical 3 different supersets done as 3 sets of 8 reps....yawn.

So, today I did 4 sets of 8 reps for two supersets then I did dropsets at the end starting with heaviest weight for 6 reps, then increasing the number of reps by 2 as I decreased the weights. I did this 4 times (6, 8, 10, 12).
