Legs Part 2 & Convenient Food Wins Out

Legs Part 2
This morning I opted to sleep in rather than try to get out and run. My hamstrings and booty were more sore today after Saturday's workout then painting yesterday, which involved a lot of standing and squatting.

I did get my second leg workout done during lunch. Today I focused on the quads. I think I might try this front/back split again next week as well. Here's what I did today:

Squats (warm up set) 10
Wide-stance squats 3x10
Static lunges 3x10
Squat jumps 3x10 (only difference was that when I jumped up, I brought my knees up so I was still in squat position)
Single leg squat/sit and stands 3x8
Wall squats with ball & weights 2x6 then static holds 4x10 seconds
Firewalkers 8 (4 steps right, 4 steps left equals 1)
Outer thigh raises on ball with ankle weights 2x16

After work, I ended up going for Cathe Friedrich's MMA Boxing. I wanted a cardio workout, but I definitely didn't need anything that was leg intensive at all.

Stir Fry Monday
I had really planned on soup and sandwiches for dinner, but in the end, stir fry won out. We already had some brown rice made, frozen veggies, and Quorn Chik'n Tenders. Sometimes convenience totally wins out. Maybe tomorrow I'll have the energy to make the soup that I wanted to try my hand at tonight.

Do you often let convenience and ease win out with dinner or do you stick to your planned meal?

Hope everyone has had a good Monday. Just 4 more days until the weekend right??

  1. I often let convenience win out--esp when life gets busy!

  2. Both on the meal. I have found ways to simplify things too. I use a pressure cooker for beans and soups now. I also am a cook a large amount so you can eat later kind of person. I hated leftovers as a kid...love them now! Have a relaxing evening Heather!

  3. I am a plan freak and I have to stil with my meal plan that I planned out a week out. Unless I am very sick I always stick to the plan.
Okay I have to ask, how do you work out at lunch? Is there a gym near yourwork? Do you work in a gym? Just curious!

  4. Yes, I definitely let convinence win out- sometimes I just need a break. Thankfully I keep stuff as 'back up' just in case I do feel that I need a break that night :)
I think I'm going to be trying your Saturday workout on my next leg day- just looked @ it again & I LOVE it. Can't wait to try it :)

  5. I'm getting better with sticking to my planned meals. Before, I would always take advantage of an opportunity to not cook, especially if it involved eating out! But now I'm enjoying cooking more..plus I can save money!

  6. Good job on the legs! I had actually never heard of Quorn until today at work, but they supposedly have a cult following!

Quorn is one of the few "faux meat" products I actually like!

  8. convenience...oh god girl i hate to say but no, i have to cook it from scratch or i cant eat it. that said, i wish!!!! i could do convenience foods! food allergies be damned! if i get glutened i am miserable for days, so if i dont make it, i dont trust it, same for processed soy and dairy too. ugh.

pushing ourselves in workouts, yeah i know you push ur self like a dog too!!! same as me :)

  9. i totally stray from planned meals all the time. like tonight, i was going to make a stir-fry ironically, but opted for a few bowls of fruit and some random snacks like crackers and some walnuts. too lazy ;)

Convenience always wins out when I get home too late and am too hungry to wait, for sure!

  11. Oh I'm definitely a convenience chick. Stir fries are my fav because they're so quick and still so tasty!

  12. Lisa @ I'm an Okie At least stir fry isn't exactly bad for you right?

Sarena @ The Non-Dairy Queen I wish I could take more time to really prepare food that can be used throughout the week to create different meals. As much as I like to plan, you'd think I'd be all over that one.

Bela @ It's Life, Max it Out I live less than a mile from my office! And if I did want to go to the gym, my company has a gym across the street and the gym I pay for (crazy I know) is diagonal. Convenience is the key ;-)

Holly @ Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices Just don't forget to do the Part 2 of it (quads) on another day. I definitely suggest allowing at least one day in between. The DOMS are still creeping up on me!

Eunice @ Food 4 Fitness We're really good about not eating out at least. There are so few decent restaurants here with veggie choices that it sort of works in our favor ;-)

Jenna @ Healthy. Happy. Well. We love Quorn in our household. It's not vegan though. But I love that it's a non-soy based protein source.

Madeline @ Greens and Jeans It's really good isn't it?

Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga I feel so thankful that I don't seem to have any food allergies.

Kelsey @ Snacking Squirrel Too lazy for stir fry LOL. We have an electric wok that I love. No heating up the kitchen and I don't even have to use oil with it. Perfect for a lazy meal.

Sarah @ Run Sarah Oh yes, I hear you on too hungry to cook too!

Alycia @ Fit n Fresh And they're full of veggies so you don't feel too guilty either!

  13. I hate squats, therefore looking at this workout makes me tired, lol.

A great go to are Morningstar burgers or nuggets. Ridiculously easy to make in a hurry.

  14. thats why i love the summer so much because the grill is SO convienent to me! seriously put stuff on tin foil drop on grill and CLOSE. haha talk about fast food ;)

missed you too! i see you are still rocking the intense workouts. and yes sometimes i skip the planned meal and make something easy.....

  16. I used to let convenience win out a lot more often until I started doing weekly meal planning. I LOVE doing this, and now I have a healthy, PLANNED meal on the table most every night. I just love it! It saves so much money, too.

  17. Oh yea, sometimes convenience rules! When I need that "convenient meal" it is always pre package pasta sauce (organic still ;)) and rice noodles! Normally I prefer a whole grain to a noodle....but sometimes these things happen.

I can't wait to see the soup!

    xxoo

  18. i'm pretty good at following through with the dinner i have planned. probably because i need to justify my grocery bill with actually eating the stuff!

  19. You gotta go for convenience, especially if the brown rice is already made!

  20. Your question assumes that I plan anything, LOL. I make whatever I have time for. But as you know we gave up processed food so quick means salad at our house.

    Impressive leg workout BTW.

  21. Nichole @ Live for the Run I really don't like squats either to be quite honest. Necessary evil though!

Julie @ Julie GoLean Oh grilling is the best part of summer!

Kalli @ Fit and Forty Something Thanks girl - I know you've been rocking the workouts too ;-)

Jess @ The Domestic Vegan I used to really plan things out. If I did better about pre-making things like rice and such, then I'd be better off.

Kris @ iheartwellness LOL - yep things sure do have a way of happening don't they ;-)

Kenzie @ A Healthy Purpose We usually manage to eat everything, but often we or I spend a great deal of time (totally wasted) thinking about what to use the "stuff" in rather than having it planned out.

Blessed Mama Very much agreed - if the rice or pasta is already there, sorry, going to go that route!

Alicia @ Vegan Epicurean But you always make such fantastic meals even if it's just thrown together!!

  22. I MUST get better at planning...I usually decide what we will have for dinner about 20 minutes before I cook it! It actually doesn't work out too bad now that I think of it...but planning would still probably be better. I basically make something easy almost every night, but it usually is still homemade. I'm all about easiness!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Convenience definitely wins me over a lot of the times. Since I only have me to cook for, it makes it so easy to just make a salad or sandwich because it is quick.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That is a LOT of squatting--I love it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Please come be my trainer! You are seriously amazing!!

at least you didn't order pizza or something. you still cooked! :)thats pretty good i would say.

  27. Candice @ ChiaSeedMe Sounds like what you do works though. Your meals certainly look great!

Kristen @ Swanky Dietitian Oh if I was cooking just for me, it'd likely be nothing but huge salads!

Dawn @ Healthy San Diego Living LOL - my legs sure weren't ;-)

Erica @ Fashion Meets Food Sure thing :-)

Jessica @ Living in the Kitchen, Gym and Mall Luckily, there is only one place that will deliver to our house. Really for the best!

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
