Busy Saturday: Chores, Workouts, Pool Time, Sister Time

Friday Follow Up
Thanks for sharing your stories on how you met your significant other. I really enjoyed them. It's so fun for me to learn more about you all.

Jason and I had a pretty relaxing Pizza & Pool Friday. While the dough was in the bread machine we played some pool, ate, then played more pool. I really enjoy simple evenings like that. We just listen to music and catch up.

Working Hard on Saturday
This morning I was hoping to sleep in but was wide awake at 7:33. I briefly thought about a run, but the heat index was already 88 and the air was sopping wet. Ick. So I just piddled around, cleaning the kitchen and messing around with my blog layout. I finally got around to my workouts around 9:30. It was kind of nice not jumping feet first into the day.

I did chest and back today as supersets of 3x8 unless otherwise noted:

Chest flye
Chest press (dumbbells)

Incline chest flye
Incline chest press (dumbbells)

Single-arm row (3x10)

Underhand rows
Single-arm horizontal row

Weighted pushups - 16
Lat pulldowns with band - 2x16

I finished up with Cathe Friedrich's HIIT Pyramid and then abs from Muscle Max and a long stretch. It was a really good workout today, and I know I'm going to be feeling my pecs tomorrow ;-)

Chores, Pool Time & Sister Time
After my workout, I ate then did some more house chores. I don't want my sis to think I'm a total slacker when it comes to keeping my house clean. We bought some shades for "her" room that needed to be hung so she could actually sleep past 6 am. That particular room gets light from a street lamp then early morning sun. I aim to please when it comes to making sure she's comfy when she stays here.

I am not sure what we'll be doing for dinner this evening. She was really wanting pizza, so it might be another pizza night. I did buy stuff to try my hand at sushi, but Jason doesn't think we should be trying something new on Sarah without testing it ourselves first. If we do end up making pizza again, we'll try to do some totally different combos that we don't normally try.

What are your favorite pizza toppings or styles?

I hope everyone has had a great Saturday!

  1. I hear ya, there was not sleeping in for us either. We got up at 6:30am after a night of no sleep. Oh well, I am really going to try to get some rest tonight. I could do pizza two nights in a row. I would absolutely make it completely different! I love humms and veggies on my pizza! Those are my favorites! Have fun with your sister. I am so jealous!

  2. loved your how you met story!

i met scott b/c he came into my work. he came in once a week for a year and finally asked me out...i cant believe i blurted out yes, but i did. our first date..he took me to the airport and we boarded a plane and ended up in atlanta! we were living in chicago. we were gone for 3 days. fell in love, he moved in that weekend, we moved across the country together 6 weeks later, started life over together on a quaint beach in the middle of no where NC. And that was almost 11.5 yrs ago. Married almost 10 of it.. 10 moves and a kid later!

  3. I've been craving a pizza with kalamata + mushroom + pineapple. Crazy, but to me the salty + sweet sounds GOOOD....

we have tall vaulted ceilings and skylights in our house... we had a friend come visit for a week, and the first night he slept on the couch (rather than our guest room??) and Jason came out the next morning early to find houseguest walking around, feeling along the walls with his eyes closed, saying he was "looking for the switch to turn the light off"... it was the sun coming thru the skylights... :)

  4. I dont eat cheese, so I like unconventional toppings like guacamole instead of tomato sauce or bbq sauce. I LOVE olives and olives go with any type of pizza I think. Sometimes, I make a dessert pizza as a snack by toasting a tortilla until its firm and topping it with cottage cheese, greek yogurt, chopped fruits and nuts. SO yummy!

  5. wow an 88 heat index! thats crazy, well at least to me since i dont know if we've ever had that here!

my fav pizza has always been ham and pineapple/hawaiian. the sweet and savory combos make me hungry just thinking about it!!

have a wonderful weekend Heather <3

  6. I love artichokes and spinach loaded onto my pizzas!

  7. I love pizza! Bbq fake chicken with sweetcorn and mushrooms, roast vegetables and baked tofu, hummous instead of cheese, now I want to make pizza....

  8. Pesto and feta are two of my very favorite pizza toppings

  9. I love sister time! Ill be having some this evening :)

Pizza toppings: mozzerella, basil, squash. I love summer pizza :)

  10. Sarena @ The Non-Dairy Queen I need to try the hummus on the pizza. I think as long as the pizza toppings are completely different, then it's a-ok to eat pizza multiple days in a row ;-)

Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga Thanks for sharing - wow!!!

Kristina @ SpaBettie Interesting combo, but I see how it would work. That's funny about the sky lights. My dad has them in his new house so I know how bright they are. Wow.

Eden's Eats Totally with you on olives. Yum. I've never really made any dessert pizzas.

Kelsey @ Snacking Squirrel My husband loves that flavor combo too!

Nicci @ Nifty Eats Totally with you on the spinach and artichokes. YUM.

Laura @ Box Run Eat Interesting with the sweet corn. I've not tried using hummus in lieu of cheese yet.

Madeline @ Greens and Jeans Oh pesto - good call!

Kenzie @ A Healthy Purpose Enjoy your sister time!

  11. I love simple evenings as well. They seriously are the best! Especially since the summertime always feel SO go go go.
Favorite pizza style- the kind where it's like a rectangle or square- I forget what that's called- Sicilian maybe?
And for toppings: ALL veggies & then some oregano always as the topper :)

  12. Enjoy time with your sister.

There are so many pizza toppings I love that I don't know where to start. Caponata and almond feta topped with a fresh herb salad is good. I also like the mixed wild mushrooms and pesto, or hummus with Turkish eggplant topped with salad is also good. Sorry I can't narrow it down to one.

hope you are having a great time,

  13. Love making sushi! And Pizza! Youre right, we need to have a pizza making night, and even a sushi making night with wine of course. :)

  14. My favorite pizza toppings are pesto, thinly sliced tomato and artichoke hearts. mmmmm.

  15. oh girl, I love your pizza Fridays! You know me, I have my new love for pizza now that I can gluten free it ;) I NEED black olives on the pizza. I can't get enough of those suckers!

  16. Holly @ Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices You are so right about summer being so busy so simple is sometimes the best.

Alicia @ Vegan Epicurean ooohh, eggplant sounds good on pizza.

Lindsay @ Cotter Crunch As sushi making evening would work too! Hey, sushi and pizza (and wine) even ;-)

Candice @ ChiaSeedMe I really need to do pesto on a pizza. Love love love artchokes.

Kris @ iheartwellness So glad you are back on the pizza wagon!

Plantar Fasciitis Woes & Way to Go Wednesday Shout Outs

I wanted to thank everyone again for your many congratulations on completing and getting a PR at my recent half marathon. The support and words mean so much to me.

My legs feel absolutely fine after the race. I could have run yesterday if it weren't for my left foot. So right now I'm trying to heal my left foot. I mentioned that I've been having problems with plantar fasciitis in that foot and that it was the cause of much pain during the race. Since the race, I've been unable to walk on it very well. Lots of hobbling going on.

I've been icing it and trying to keep it elevated. But, I noticed that it's started to get some bruising, not horrible, but worrisome. Not sure if it's better or worse for it to be discolored vs red and swollen. However, this could be indicitive of a tear.
But, my bigger concern with the bruising is that indication that there's been bleeding. Being on Xarelto for the blood clot means my blood doesn't clot very well these days…

PJs n Pizza Recap

What Happened Last Night?
This morning I woke up first at 6:20 when Maddie decided she wanted out of her kennel and to be downstairs. The second time was 8:09 when Heath decided he wanted out of his kennel and downstairs to eat. I won't like, I would like to (needed to) have slept another two hours. It was a little slow going after last night.

Sign of a good party would be my first tweet of the day:  I'm thinking there is a bird in the house...what the hell happened last night???

Yep, found bird poop where bird poop most definitely should not be. Still have not found said bird however.

It should go without saying that last night was a total blast. It was so fun having everyone just be relaxed and comfy in jammies. I am not known for letting loose often, but I definitely went with it last night. There was a bit (lot) of wine consumed, pizza devoured and even some dancing.

Reintroducing Myself

We'll begin with the basics. I'm Heather. I started this blog in 2009 with the intent of sharing my love of exercise and healthy eating (and a little bit of personal stuff of course). I blogged, and blogged and blogged my heart out. Every.Single.Day.

I forgot how to sit down to eat without a) typing it up in the blog and b) photographing it. We didn't have hot meals for quite some time I might add. I was doing it all wrong of course. But, at the time, I loved it. I loved sharing my ideas for healthy, tasty, vegetarian foods.

Blogging also gave me an outlet to share my passion for exercise - lifting weights, HIIT workouts, running, even following along to DVDs at home. It was probably one of the boosts I needed to finally pursue my quiet goal of becoming a certified personal trainer.

My blogging style began to shift. My focus was shifting. My desire was shifting. The less I blogged, the more time I had. The more I felt I could breathe. I wasn't comparing my food to othe…
