Busy Saturday: Chores, Workouts, Pool Time, Sister Time

Friday Follow Up
Thanks for sharing your stories on how you met your significant other. I really enjoyed them. It's so fun for me to learn more about you all.

Jason and I had a pretty relaxing Pizza & Pool Friday. While the dough was in the bread machine we played some pool, ate, then played more pool. I really enjoy simple evenings like that. We just listen to music and catch up.

Working Hard on Saturday
This morning I was hoping to sleep in but was wide awake at 7:33. I briefly thought about a run, but the heat index was already 88 and the air was sopping wet. Ick. So I just piddled around, cleaning the kitchen and messing around with my blog layout. I finally got around to my workouts around 9:30. It was kind of nice not jumping feet first into the day.

I did chest and back today as supersets of 3x8 unless otherwise noted:

SS#1
Chest flye
Chest press (dumbbells)

SS#2
Incline chest flye
Incline chest press (dumbbells)

SS#3
Pullovers
Single-arm row (3x10)

SS#4
Underhand rows
Single-arm horizontal row

Weighted pushups - 16
Lat pulldowns with band - 2x16

I finished up with Cathe Friedrich's HIIT Pyramid and then abs from Muscle Max and a long stretch. It was a really good workout today, and I know I'm going to be feeling my pecs tomorrow ;-)

Chores, Pool Time & Sister Time
After my workout, I ate then did some more house chores. I don't want my sis to think I'm a total slacker when it comes to keeping my house clean. We bought some shades for "her" room that needed to be hung so she could actually sleep past 6 am. That particular room gets light from a street lamp then early morning sun. I aim to please when it comes to making sure she's comfy when she stays here.

I am not sure what we'll be doing for dinner this evening. She was really wanting pizza, so it might be another pizza night. I did buy stuff to try my hand at sushi, but Jason doesn't think we should be trying something new on Sarah without testing it ourselves first. If we do end up making pizza again, we'll try to do some totally different combos that we don't normally try.

What are your favorite pizza toppings or styles?

I hope everyone has had a great Saturday!

  1. I hear ya, there was not sleeping in for us either. We got up at 6:30am after a night of no sleep. Oh well, I am really going to try to get some rest tonight. I could do pizza two nights in a row. I would absolutely make it completely different! I love humms and veggies on my pizza! Those are my favorites! Have fun with your sister. I am so jealous!

  3. I've been craving a pizza with kalamata + mushroom + pineapple. Crazy, but to me the salty + sweet sounds GOOOD....

we have tall vaulted ceilings and skylights in our house... we had a friend come visit for a week, and the first night he slept on the couch (rather than our guest room??) and Jason came out the next morning early to find houseguest walking around, feeling along the walls with his eyes closed, saying he was "looking for the switch to turn the light off"... it was the sun coming thru the skylights... :)

  4. I dont eat cheese, so I like unconventional toppings like guacamole instead of tomato sauce or bbq sauce. I LOVE olives and olives go with any type of pizza I think. Sometimes, I make a dessert pizza as a snack by toasting a tortilla until its firm and topping it with cottage cheese, greek yogurt, chopped fruits and nuts. SO yummy!

  10. Sarena @ The Non-Dairy Queen I need to try the hummus on the pizza. I think as long as the pizza toppings are completely different, then it's a-ok to eat pizza multiple days in a row ;-)

Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga Thanks for sharing - wow!!!

Kristina @ SpaBettie Interesting combo, but I see how it would work. That's funny about the sky lights. My dad has them in his new house so I know how bright they are. Wow.

Eden's Eats Totally with you on olives. Yum. I've never really made any dessert pizzas.

Kelsey @ Snacking Squirrel My husband loves that flavor combo too!

Nicci @ Nifty Eats Totally with you on the spinach and artichokes. YUM.

Laura @ Box Run Eat Interesting with the sweet corn. I've not tried using hummus in lieu of cheese yet.

Madeline @ Greens and Jeans Oh pesto - good call!

Kenzie @ A Healthy Purpose Enjoy your sister time!

  11. I love simple evenings as well. They seriously are the best! Especially since the summertime always feel SO go go go.
Favorite pizza style- the kind where it's like a rectangle or square- I forget what that's called- Sicilian maybe?
And for toppings: ALL veggies & then some oregano always as the topper :)

  12. Enjoy time with your sister.

There are so many pizza toppings I love that I don't know where to start. Caponata and almond feta topped with a fresh herb salad is good. I also like the mixed wild mushrooms and pesto, or hummus with Turkish eggplant topped with salad is also good. Sorry I can't narrow it down to one.

hope you are having a great time,
    Ali

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
