Honey Kind of Monday

Feeling Lazy
Well, this morning I was a total bum and did not get up to get in any part of my workout. Yes, kicking myself because I was pretty much awake. Jason got up to go swim at 5 am. As quiet as he may try to be, I almost always wake up when he gets up. Oh how I wish I were a morning person.

Anyway, I ended up opting for shoulders during lunch. Decided to do drop sets today to shake things up a bit. I've been doing the standard 3x8 for too long I think. It's always good to change things up. I did 4 sets of 10 reps decreasing the weight approximately 10% with each set.

Shoulder press
Lateral raise
Rear delt flye
Front raise
Front/side/front raise (do front raise, open arms to side, close back to front then return to start)

I finished up with ab work from Cardio and Weights. It was a short, fast paced workout.

I will admit that I was seriously dreading doing any cardio today. I did get my step set up in the living room during lunch though. This makes it harder to change my mind. I ended up going with Cathe Friedrich's Athletic Step. I haven't done that one in a long time, so I figured it would be fun again (or that was the hope anyway). Luckily it worked out as planned and it was a great, sweaty, fun workout.

Honey is the Theme

Jason went and got a new propane tank during lunch. You know what that means...yep, grilling time! We had this fantastic locally grown lettuce mix that we really needed to use up so a Grilled Veggie & Tofu Salad was what ended up on the menu for the night. I adore grilled salads because I get the best of both worlds: a salad and grilling.

The veggies/toppings were squash, zucchini, tomatoes (yep, grilled tomatoes), portobellos, new potatoes, and bell peppers with tofu that I had marinated in a raspberry honey mustard vinaigrette (whisk together: raspberry honey mustard, Dijon mustard, olive oil, and red wine vinegar). I made just enough extra of the marinade to use as a dressing for the salad. Oh and the absolute kicker for this...a honey goat cheese that Jason picked up (not realizing it was flavored). It couldn't have been more perfect (for the non-vegans of course).

What are your favorite grilled veggies?

  12. I did an athletic step workout today! Great way to start today!!! Your grilled dinner looks delicious. I love any grilled vegetable, but I guess mushrooms are perfect on the grill if I had to pick just one. I hope you have a great Tuesday!

  13. Courtney @ Ice Cream & Wine I saw your tomatoes and squash and that looked heavenly!

Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg Yes ma'am - honey goat cheese!

Lindsay @ Cotter Crunch I think you may be right about anything being better on the grill!

April @ The Weigh I Am I have missing asparagus. Need to add that to the list. Athletic Step is definitely a fun one isn't it?!

Eunice @ Food 4 Fitness Isn't it funny how some things just go together like onions and bell peppers.

Madeline @ Greens and Jeans Onions have to be done just right for me to enjoy them. My hubby loves grilled onions though.

Candice @ ChiaSeedMe I think squash ranks really high as my fave and I don't do anything to it - no salt, pepper, oil, nada, I just like it plain.

Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga LOL - I try to be neat and orderly ;-)

Sarah @ Run Sarah During the winter we use a cast iron grill that goes over the stove burners. Works pretty well if you want another option.

Eden's Eats I love grilled peaches too. Need to pick some up I do believe! I think that getting 10% done sometimes is really good! LOL

Kris @ iheartwellness Aw thanks girl - you're too kind! Yes, sometimes just getting up is the hardest part of the day ;-)

Alicia @ Vegan Epicurean It's really hard to decide on just one or even three isn't it!

  18. EVERY morning I talk myself out of getting up to exercise and then talk myself back into it, like 3 times. It was almost easier when I just started out because I had to prove it to myself.

Regardless, I get up 95% of the time... but the fight is miserable.

  20. My first thought was to say 'pineapple' because I LOVE it grilled..but that's not a veggie- haha! So I'd have to say maybe green peppers or sweet potatos (does that count? :) )

  21. Your recipe looks great and healthy. I'm with you on the morning struggle. But, when I finally drag myself to the gym, I'm really glad I'm there. I'm still a not-so-good griller, so I'm always impressed when someone is adept at it.

  22. I looooove grilled veggies. Grilled portobellos are awesome, and I also loved grilled corn, eggplant, and zucchini. Grilled pineapple is THE BEST!

Lisa @ I'm an Okie I agree - Yum is the word ;-)

Kenzie @ A Healthy Purpose I think getting up 95% of the time is fantastic!

Kelsey @ Snacking Squirrel Thanks sweetie - glad you think it all sounds tasty. I love new potatoes on the grill too. Love the way they get slightly crisp then soft inside.

Holly @ Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices LOL I would have gladly accepted pineapple as a valid answer!

Blessed Mama Thanks you ma'am. I think grilling just takes a tiny bit of practice and patience more than anything.

Jess @ The Domestic Vegan There is something about grilled corn that just shouts summer in my mind.

Robyn @ Ramblings of a Wanna Be Writer and Runner LOL - usually once I get my lazy rear into gear, I'm fine. Some days are just harder than others ;-)

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
