No Whimpy Wednesday

Rewind to Tuesday - Taco Bowls
I made a big oops in my dinner post last night. I apologize because I was rushing through and failed to explain the "bowl" part. I actually started making them after reading about how easy they were to make on many other blogs. They are super simple to make and a fun alternative to a burrito or quesadilla.

How to make a Taco Salad Bowl:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F

Prepare a pyrex bowl (or other oven-safe baking bowl) with a non-stick spray.

Insert your favorite flour tortilla  (I use a whole-wheat variety) and shape - you will have some fluted edges. Bake for approximately 15 minutes until golden and crispy.

No Whimpy Wednesday
Well, I must admit to having very little sleep yet again. One of our sweet furbabies is about to start sleeping downstairs. I love her dearly, but the girl doesn't stop moving...ever. She wakes up frequently throughout the night to itch, lick, move about her kennel, causing general raucous. She seems to be doing this a lot more these past few nights. So I was up nearly every hour.

Jason's alarm went off at 5:03 am for swim. I went ahead and got up, there was no point in pretending I could get any more sleep. I got both my weight and cardio done and over with at least. I did legs with focus on hamstrings, glutes, and calves. I did drop sets of 4 x 10 unless otherwise noted:

Alternating front lunge
Stiff-legged dead lifts (dumbbells)
Front leg elevated lunge (video)
Calf raises
Plie squats with low-end pulse
Rear leg slide back lunges (video, I did not put weights down)
Single leg calf raises - 3x10
Donkey kicks with weight - 2x18 (video)
Glute roll-ins with hip lift on ball - 8 roll-ins with hip lift, 16 hip lifts, 16 roll-ins
Inner thigh raise with ankle weights - 24 single, 24 high-end pulse, 24 single

I finished up with the last 3 combos from Kick Punch and Crunch and the abs from that workout as well (one of my faves). I am officially sore from arms down to legs.

Blog Advice
So I know that my blog is way past due for some serious remodeling. Before I just change things up, I want to get your thoughts and advice. Here are the things I am thinking about and why I am not sure about changing them:

1. Commenting tool - Blogger does not allow me to reply to each comment, I have to manually type in your names and urls (b/c I want to link back to you all). This is why I comment in groupings. I have looked at Disqus. Ideas? Suggestions?

2. About Me Page - Should I do an about me page or leave the blurb where it is? Do you all go to the About Me pages when they are separated out in their own tabs?

3. Blog Roll Page - Sort of the same as the About Me dilemma. I want everyone to see the blogs I love so that they may visit them as well. But, I want to add to my list and right now it's getting lengthy there on the side. Do you visit Blog Roll pages?

4. Recipes and Workouts
- I do think I need a recipes page by now. Would it be preferable to just link back to the original post or to pull the recipes out into their own pages? Same with workouts actually. Or should I only post workouts when they are rotations? Not sure how to handle workouts....hmmmm....

Stir Fry on Hump Day
Tonight ended up being stir fry. I let Jason do the work. We were out of any sort of pre-made sauce so he threw together a quick THOS (Tom Yum, Hoisen, OJ, Sesame) Stir-Fry Sauce. All ingredients are basically to taste and consistency.

THOS Stir-Fry Sauce
Tom Yum (vegetarian)
Sesame oil
Rice wine vinegar
To taste: garlic, basil, chili powder, red pepper

Whisk all ingredients together

There were many veggies harmed in the making. Frozen: green beans, broccoli, peas, and cauliflower. Fresh: purple cabbage and carrots. The protein was Quorn Chik'n Tenders.

This was served over brown rice.

Happy Hump Day friends!

  1. Thanks again for sharing your taco bowl directions! :)

  2. Aren't the taco bowls awesome? Makes you wonder why restaurants fry them? I have the same thoughts about my blog too. I am not loving blogger right now, but there are things about wordpress that I am not crazy about either. I am curious about what people have to say. The commenting back thing is the part I hate most about blogger! Your dinner looks delicious!

  3. i spent 3 hours a few weeks ago trying to find a way to set up a reply to comments on the comment page with no luck. i tried every site i could google for hints etc. i was thinking of contacting blogger and seeing if they were looking in to updating this. its such a pain isnt it!!

    xoxo <3

  4. Totally agree with the other commenters and yourself! Blogger NEEDS to at least add the ability to "reply" to comments. I'm not unhappy with using Blogger otherwise, just not having that "reply" thang sucks. I'm interested in what others suggest as well.

I definitely think you should add a recipe page--you have the most AWESOME recipes and ideas! And that stir fry is no exception to your vegetarian genius! Looks yummers! :)

  5. Sorry to hear you aren't getting much sleep. The same thing is happening here but I don't have any little fur babies to blame.

I can't wait to hear what you come up with in terms of replying to comments. I lost a bit of time on that as well.

I don't look at the about me page unless I am looking at a blog for the first time and then I do if it is there.

If recipes are repeats I don't think you need to retype them just link to them. In that cast a recipe tab would be good but it sounds like a lot of work to me.

I have never visited a separate blog roll tab.

If you have set workouts I would create pages and link back to them. That may make it easier on you and show the variety for others. I am sure whatever you come up with will be great.

  6. The taco bowls are so easy and good!

and yes---I read about mes as a seperate tab and I also look at blogrolls as seperate tabs.

and yes, you need a recipe page! Id love that! I think either way would work. When I am short on time, I just link it back to the post. If I have more time, then I make a new page for it.

  7. Your stir fry looks amazing! I'm such a sucker for stir frys. Just give me a big bowl of veggies and I'm happy!

The about me tab is the first thing I look for when visiting someone's site. I think it gives you a little more space to really tell who you are and what your blog is all about!

I definitely look at blogroll tabs just as much as I would a blogroll on the home page.

You should totally do a recipes page and I think linking to the original pages would be just fine - and easier on you!

Can't wait to see what you decide on!

  8. I thought about moving to a separate blogroll page, but it seemed like more work than I was ready for... Maybe I just need to devote a day to updates?

  9. I hope I inspired that taco bowl idea! ;) I've been going bowl crazy since a got a whole box of sample tortillas! I dont know blogpot very well, wordpress drives me crazy too.

  10. I got intense debate installed as my commenting sytsem b/c after 9 mos or so of blogger's bs, i couldnt take it anymore. 50 ppl a day wanting an answer to something...i need to email them direclty, too. my intense debate emails i get show their email, url (if they include it) and their IP. It's not perfect but light yrs ahead of blogger. I just dont like disqus cosmetic look. i know that is soo lame but that was my only reason for not using them LOL

thx for your support tonite, and always, means the world!!!!!

about me and blogroll and recipe and workout pages, if i am interested i go to them on blogger's sites, yes. not daily but i do go. I made those pages not sidebar items for the same reasons you indicated...too cluttery otherwise.

  11. I always go to someone's About Me page - and it seems, at least from my stats, people visit mine as well. :)

recipe page? YES ! :) I read those, too, and would DEFINITELY read yours!! :)

  12. There are so many things I'd change about my site, too...but I'm better at eating and working out so it'll just have to wait! ;-)

  13. I read all of those pages. I like the About Me to help get a sense of the person the first time I visit the blog. I like the Blog Roll page because if I like a blog, I figure I will like the ones they read and it's a great way to find new people to connect with. And recipe page? You definitely need one of those because all your recipes are so good. I think just linking back to the posts with the recipes suffices though.

  14. Courtney @ Ice Cream & Wine You're very welcome.

Sarena @ The Non-Dairy Queen It really does make you wonder why restaurants fry them - and fry lots of things actually. I like blogger other than the commenting.

Kelsey @ Snacking Squirrel I know for certain that this has been a long-standing complaint with blogger actually. I searched early on myself.

Laura @ B Foxy Fitness Hopefully us blogger users can get some good responses out of this question then. And thank you for you kind words.

Alicia @ Vegan Epicurean Thanks for your suggestions. I'm just trying to make it easier for everyone (me included) to be able to find recipes. I do indeed refer back to my own blog for recipes if I forget to write them out ;-)

Lisa @ I'm an Okie Thank you ma'am. I appreciate your comments!

Candice @ ChiaSeedMe Thanks so much. I really do appreciate your feedback. And thank you for the food compliment of course ;-)

Madeline @ Greens and Jeans Oh yes, it'll all take some time and that's why I've been putting it off for so long.

Eden's Eats Oh you're one inspiration for the bowls. I saw them on several blogs almost all at the same time. Funny how that happens isn't it.

Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga Thanks so much for your feedback. I have heard Intense Debate is a good commenting tool. I only briefly checked it out.

Kristina @ SpaBettie Cool - thank you for letting me know. This feedback is great.

Joanna Sutter @ Fitness & Spice LOL - I have obviously been better at the eating and working out part too ;-)

Tina @ Faith Fitness and Fun Thank you ma'am. I appreciate it and I appreciate you letting me know what you've heard about disqus and intense debate as well

  15. oh taco bowls seem easy!

as for blog commenting, i dont mind disqus, but it seems like a lot of my readers have difficulty using it for linking their site. Have you looked into intense debate? that might be a good one.

and i get a lot of hits on my "about me" page, so i think that would be a good idea---but recipe pages just seem like more work than they're worth sometimes!

  16. Hey Girlie! I'd love it if you added a recipes page. I do read about me's and blogrolls.

Sorry about the lack of sleep lately. Molly is a mover and a shaker too. She definitely can't sleep in the bed anymore.

  17. Thanks for the scoop on your taco bowls! How simple!!!!!!
I personally always read about me pages and I visit blogroll pages too.
Hope you get some more sleep tonight!

  18. Well I love your little site, and think that a recipes and workout section would be great!

Have you considered moving sites to a wordpress or another hosting site? I know, moving is tough, lol.

  19. Sorry - I'm replying so late! My vote? Go to Wordpress ;) But seriously, I think a separate About You is a great idea, I always visit those, same goes for the recipe page - a separate one is easier to navigate in many ways. And - I do visit blogrolls to find new people to follow so I say keep them. How's that for my two cents??

  20. I vote wordpress too ;-) Blogger is so clunky, which is why I didn't use it! But if you are sticking with this, I vote yes to about me and recipe pages and to keep the blogroll! I think they're quite useful.

  21. Kenzie @ A Healthy Purpose Thanks for the info on disqus, that's always good to know.

Lindsay @ Pancakes N Pajamas Thanks for the feedback! Oh, ours are in kennels which almost makes it worse b/c Maddie can bang at the cage.

Kara @ My Wellnest Thanks so much for the feedback and sleep wishes ;-)

Nichole @ Live for the Run I have thought about changing but change is hard isn't it.

Jessica @ EatDrinkBreatheSweat and Jolene @ To Be Determined Are you two working for WP now??? LOL. As for the blogroll, I will keep just not sure if people read as often in it's own tab rather than down the side.

Tanya @ Tanya's Daily Product Reviews Thanks so much!

  22. I like about me pages, if I think I like the look of a blog but I want to know a little more about it I always go to the about me page first. I do visit blogrolls but I personally prefer them down the side of the blog, but that's personal taste, really it's up to you! This is reminding me I need to update my blog too!

  23. Also, I forgot to say, about the comments, I try to reply directly on someones blog to comments but I've been wondering whether I should reply on my blog instead... Not sure really!

  24. I like all of the suggestions/comments. I do read people's about me tabs, and it doesn't matter to me whether a blog roll is on the side or on a separate page. The whole commenting issue is a big deal, isn't it? I'm trying to get used to going back to comments I've left to see if the blogger commented back - but sometimes I forget. I sort of like it when the blogger just hits reply on email that way I'm sure to see it. The only thing I have a strong opinion about is word verification - ugh. I understand why some people have it on their comments, but it's sooo time consuming to fill out every time.

  25. oops I'm late on catching up on my blog reading! I think an About Me page is a great idea. As far as a blog roll, I have one and I notice that people click on them a lot. :)

  26. Laura @ Box Run Eat Thanks for the feedback! I really do appreciate it.

Jenny @ Vegan and So Forth I would like to be able to comment and that person receive notification of my reply. I like replying on the blog b/c sometimes people might be interested in my reply to a particular question.

Eunice @ Food 4 Fitness Better late than never right ;-)

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
