Fun Facts Friday - Randomness

Friday Workouts
So, today I was off work. Very excited about that. I didn't really sleep in like I had hoped - only slept another 30 minutes extra perhaps. Oh well, better than nothing I suppose. I pretty much piddled around for a while before doing any workouts, chores, etc. That was a nice change of pace. I think every day should start that way.

Today I did back. I did tri sets of 3x10.

TS#1
Underhand rows
Pullovers
Double-arm rows

TS#2
Reverse flyes
Lat band pulldowns
Low back extensions on ball

I was really torn between getting outside for a run or doing step aerobics. I really and truly needed to rest the legs though. This is why I really didn't want to take Wednesday as a rest day. I kind of needed today to be my rest day. But, things happen and you roll with it. Rather than getting out for a run, I did Cathe's MMA Boxing. I listened to my body and saved the legs.

Free Day Means Errands and Chores
After my workouts, I got cleaned up, ate lunch then headed out for some errands. What's better than Target? Um, a brand new semi-super center Target that's only about 4 miles from my house! I don't know what this Target should be called, it doesn't have a full grocery section, but they do carry some produce, veggies, and such. Anyway, I wandered aimlessly for an hour and a half! I did good and got mostly what was on the list. A bracelet may or may not have ended up in the basket though.

I found some cute things in the Dollar Section for my nephew and niece. Tomorrow is my niece's 6th birthday party and I had already gotten her some clothes and tennis shoes, but found a few fun little goodies. I also picked up fun stuff for my nephew because I wanted him to have something to. Jason finds this odd - both kids get gifts. The birthday child gets the most of course, but the sibling does get a few goodies. This is how it was for us growing up. Anyone else do that?

I also hit up Whole Foods and managed to keep that tab under $45. Very proud of that one I must say. I only got a couple of things I shouldn't have. I just wanted to try a Pure bar...is that so wrong?

So today has been kind of busy for me: workouts, errands, chores. I also need to make up a dip or two for tomorrow. Tomorrow is going to be insanely busy for us. First off, I am running in the Susan G. Komen Arkansas Race for the Cure (which is why I needed today to be a rest day). Then we have to head to my niece's birthday party which is an hour drive. When we get back, we'll actually not head home, but rather head straight over to our friends' house to watch Arkansas vs. Auburn. So, I need to get as much done today as possible.

Nerves Galore
I must admit that I am really nervous about the race tomorrow. I put way too much pressure on myself for races to be honest. This is a really tough course. My PR for this course is 24:36, but my true PR is 24:12.

Why so much slower? First off, there are nearly 45,000 runners/walkers. Thankfully if you mark yourself as running under 27 minutes, you get a special bib and get to start in front. But, there is still sooooo much zigzagging and people dodging that it's hard to even get up to speed for the first half mile, which happens to be up hill. It finally levels off after crossing a bridge. Mile 2 starts straight up a steep bridge. Thankfully, it levels out for the most part until you begin mile 3. This is the toughest part in my opinion because for almost a mile (maybe .75) it is nothing but a long, gradual incline. It's very deceiving, and very tough especially at this point because you're starting to fatigue. So, I'm stressed, nervous, and even have an upset tummy today.

Do you get super stressed out for races or do you try to enjoy them?

Fun Facts Friday - Randomness
Well, I really don't have any sort of theme for today's fun facts. Since I'm super busy, I thought I'd just list out some random facts or thoughts. Sometimes that can be fun too.

  • I am in love with the new Target and may need to have Jason to do the shopping there for the sake of our wallets.
  • I actually enjoy running errands when I don't feel like I have to rush. But I tend to buy more of course.
  • My weekdays off end up being busier than if I were at work.
  • I actually enjoyed an Epsom salt bath today.
  • I drink way less water when I'm not at work, this does not bode well for tomorrow's race.
  • I absolutely cannot believe my niece is 6 years old. When did 6 years pass?
  • Arkansas vs Auburn is the only football game I will ever care to watch.
  • I lived in Auburn for 7 months and worked at a sports bar - we won that year, teehee.
  • I have it in my head that I want to go for a run with Jason after my race tomorrow - Saturdays have been long run days.
  • For some crazy reason, I really want cheese dip today.
So, there you have it. Total random thoughts. Your turn!

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
