Christmas Sweaters and Productive Sunday

You Want Pictures?
You guys crack me up. I think every single comment had a demand for pictures of the Christmas sweater I wore to the ugly sweater party. How could I possibly deny such a request??? But first, I must say, I was the only one who actually owned my sweater! Yep, it was mine already. In fact, it was given to me by my mom last year. I love her dearly, but will never ever understand what compelled her to buy me that sweater. At least I had a reason to wear it though right? Here are two pictures. One of the girls actually had a sweater with light!

I'll admit, I most definitely felt frumpy in the sweater. Was not feeling uber attractive at all. But at least I wasn't alone, even and my friend made her sweet Beagle Bella wear one too!

Chest & Kickboxing
This morning was sunny but super cold and windy beyond explanation. It sounded like rain the wind was blowing so hard. Definitely not run-inspiring weather so there was no urge whatsoever! I did a few chores like folding laundry before getting to business with my workouts for the day.

Today was chest from STS Meso 2, Disc 22. I am up to 80% of my 1RM this week.

Wide arm pushups - 10
Standard pushups - 10
Wide arm pushups - 10
Standard pushups - TF
Flat bench chest press - 12, 10, 8
Incline flyes - 12, 10, 8
Incline bench press - 12, 10, 8

I wavered big time on cardio, but ended up going with the drills and three combos from Cathe's Kick, Punch, and Crunch plus the abs. It ended up being a good workout actually. Even better, it didn't seem to bother my knee. The past couple of times I've tried kickboxing, it didn't go over so well.

Another Productive Sunday
After my workout, I got cleaned up while Jason hit Kroger. I got busy in the kitchen making Chipotle Cranberry Relish to jar for Christmas gifts. I made some wheat/spelt French bread, cooked off a bag of white beans to freeze (and use for dinner tonight), got my Christmas cards all finished up, cleaned the bathroom counters (they are marble and hard to keep clean, have to use special cleaner), and got a few gifts wrapped. I feel like it's been a pretty successful day around the house. Even better, it was a no-makeup, yoga pants, and fleece top kind of day.

I will say I was disappointed in the canning of the Chiptole Cranberry Relish. I used 2 bags of fresh cranberries and only came out with four 8oz jars. :-( I was hoping for a few more. Oh well. Now I know that it takes a lot more cranberries to make a lot more relish! I will be making and canning spaghetti sauce next weekend so I may make some more relish while I'm already at it in the kitchen.

As I mentioned earlier about making the beans to freeze and use for dinner tonight, I am planning on making my Spicy White Chili using roasted poblanos. I may actually try roasting the onions and the bell peppers as well just to see if that changes the flavor much. I love the flavors of roasted veggies.

I hope everyone has had a great weekend either productive or productively lazy!

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
