Last Run for 2010 and Living Fuller

This morning I had really hoped to sleep in late, I was aiming for 9 am actually. Maddie decided to start barking around 6:30 though so that foiled my plans. I did stay in bed and doze until 8:30 though. It felt so nice to be back in my own bed.

We had a front moving through today that brought in warm temps, high humidity, and deadly tornadoes. Thankfully, the storms weren't as bad for us, but sadly people were killed in the storms today. Whenever it's 70+ degrees in December or January, you know to expect tornadoes.

My sinuses were feeling less packed in today, but this crud is starting to move into my chest unfortunately. I had to use my inhaler twice today when I rarely even use it once a month. However, with the temps being so much warmer, I couldn't pass up a run. I really wasn't sure how far I was going to make it. I was hoping for at least 3 miles. Since I wasn't convinced I would be able to go very far, I didn't think to bring my small water bottle that I can carry with me. Big mistake because I was dehydrated feeling from the sinus meds then my sinuses started draining so I felt like I was choking on snot (attractive I know). At one point I actually started thinking about grabbing a leaf to blow my nose on.

I will say that I ended up having a pretty good 5.5 mile run with zero IT band pain. However, the sinus meds, congestion, and humidity made for a more difficult run. But I am happy to end 2010 with a pain-free run at least.

I got home and immediately started to roll my IT band as well as use the new Triggerpoint balls to roll out my lower back. While finishing up stretching, I called Jason to ask about plans tonight - we were invited last minute to have dinner with friends. My friend Karla sent me a text that for her hubby's (Troy) birthday they wanted to go out. Jason then tells me that Troy had also asked him/us to lunch (that part I didn't know about). So I had to get ready really quickly so we could make it across town. It was at a new wing joint but I figured I could at least get a side salad (trying to be flexible). They ended up having a veggie burger on the menu to my surprise. Sometimes it pays to be more flexible.

This brings me to my resolution for 2011. I don't normally do resolutions. Last year was the first time I actually set out some specific goals. What I realized is that it's really more about positive personal growth than just set goals like running a half marathon or writing a book - for me anyway. So this year, my goal is to live fuller. For me, this means being more flexible, being willing to change, taking risks, basically living life to its fullest.

For Fun Facts Friday, I thought it would be fun to hear what some of your resolutions are if you make them. Or why you don't make them perhaps. Or you can just tell me what you're up to this evening. Jason and I will be having Pizza and Pool Friday staying in out of the madness.

I hope that whatever you do, you have a safe and wonderful New Year's Eve!

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
