No Run Saturday Means Leg Day

Finally a Leg Workout
Wow, I am really blown away by your comments to yesterday's post. You guys are the best, seriously. I must agree with Lindsay that life would be so boring if we were all perfect. That's what makes us all so unique.

Today was a gloomy looking day. I even felt gloomy knowing that Saturdays are typically my longer run days. My knee has been bothering me yesterday and today so I wasn't even going to pretend that I should attempt a run. Yes, this is depressing me. I seriously almost just took a second rest day because I was really down. But I decided to go for a leg workout. I haven't been able to do any of the STS Meso 2 leg workouts yet, so I went with Meso 2, Disc 20. There are three sets of tri-sets, each done for 10 reps. It looks a bit daunting at first, but it really flies by:

TS#1
Lateral step ups
Side sliding lunges
1-legged sit and stands

TS#2
Static lunges
Alternating plie squats
Rear leg slide back lunges

TS#3
Narrow stance squats
45 degree front lunges
Front leg sliding single leg lunges

Single leg calf raises - 20 slow, 20 fast

After the weights, I stretched then rolled my IT band thoroughly. I also iced my knee as well because, I'll be totally honest, weights didn't help ease the pain. I am so freaking tired of this by the way. I want to just stomp my feet and throw a big-ass fit.

Avoiding Grocery Store
So today the grocery store was on the errand list. Did we make it there? Nope. We did everything but go grocery shopping. We even ended up stopping at Bed Bath & Beyond and TJ Maxx but never Kroger. Of course, there was nothing that we just HAD to have today from the grocery store so that made avoidance even easier. The crazy thing is, if we hadn't already been to Whole Foods this week, it's likely we would have made it there but still never Kroger. Do you ever do that?

Party Excuse

Tonight we have a get-together to go to. The official event: Christmas Gathering/MMA PPV Watch Party Thingy. Got to love that, basically just an excuse to have a party. While I really am not into watching MMA, I think it'll still be fun hanging out with friends. I made some roasted red bell pepper hummus for my work party along with the sweet treats. I'm taking the leftovers with me to the party. Not sure what else there will be (other than wine, beer, mimosas).

Oh, and to make it a Christmas gathering, we're supposed to wear Christmas sweaters. I have mine on, thought I'm not comfortable in it and am of course doubting ever second of wearing it. I am convinced I'll be the only one donning and ugly Christmas sweater. I plan on taking a cardigan as a backup though ;-)

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
