Double Weight Day & Souper Supper

Double Weight Day
It's a misty/foggy, chilly, gray day here today. It certainly made it that much harder getting up for work. Even harder knowing so many have the day off. Sigh. I was really feeling super lazy and contemplated making today a rest day.

But I know that I'll want the rest day (need it) more later in the week. So I mustered up the energy and got in biceps and abs during lunch. Biceps was supposed to be 4 sets of 6 reps at 90% of 1RM.

Dumbbell curls
Hammer curls
Concentration curls

I had a pretty strong feeling workout and wish I could have adjusted the weights for hammer curls by 1 lb.

I am finding it nearly impossible to get in a leg workout now with this new half marathon training. There just seems to be no ideal day. I have been doing legs on Monday the past couple of weeks though, so I decided to go with legs after work rather than doing any cardio. My legs were starting to feel a bit of fatigue after the weekend runs. Rather than going super heavy with weights, I added in some low-end pulses and some plyo moves. I did a superset of 3x8 (unless noted) then the plyo.

SS#1
Alternating front lunges
Deadlifts

Alternating split jumps - 32 total

SS#2
Squats with low-end pulse
Plie squats with low-end pulse

Plie hops with weight - 24

SS#3
Step ups
Calf raises - 3x12

Explosive running man on step

SS#4
Narrow-stance squats
Side-drop squats off step

Weighted donkey kicks - 2x16

I think this was a pretty good leg workout for now. It wasn't so heavy that I was wobbly going down stairs, but I definitely felt it. I guess tomorrow I'll really know if it was too much or not when I set out for tomorrow's training run.

Souper Simple Dinner
Today I just wasn't in the mood to even think about what to make for dinner let alone cook dinner. I think part of it was the dreary weather. Luckily, I had some leftover, frozen Creamy Curried Kabocha and Pumpkin Soup in the freezer, so I pulled that out at lunch to thaw. So this worked out perfectly.
I roasted up some chickpeas (seasoned with curry powder, salt, pepper) and tossed those on top of the soup for added texture and crunch. I really like pairing something like the tempeh bacon, toasted squash seeds, or roasted chickpeas with a creamy style soup.

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
