Unplanned Day - But a Good One

Running not Punching
This will be a quick post for me. Today turned out quite differently than I had planned. I thought the weather was supposed to be warmer and nice tomorrow, so I had it in my head that I was going to do a boxing or kickboxing workout rather than the 4-mile run my training plan had me scheduled for. I figured I could use some boxing to get out some of the aggression after the day I had yesterday.

I checked the weather and learned that the forecast had changed (go figure). Today was sunny and tomorrow is now supposed to be cloudy with chance of wintry mix. So, long run today. I was really not planning on running at all, so I had to totally change my mental focus. Oh, and convince Jason to go out for a run too. I was planning on 10 tomorrow, but decided I'd just go for 9 today since it was not really the plan anyway.

It was about 30 degrees when we headed out, but I was quickly too warm and peeling off layers. It was sunny, with not a single cloud. There was still snow on the grass and in the shaded areas so it was really a very peaceful run. I felt great actually for the first 7 miles. Then I don't know what changed, but I started to just lose focus and form. My piriformis was really hurting me - enough to where I actually had to stop and stretch for a minute. Then I never seemed to regain my earlier momentum and energy. We still cranked out 9.2 miles though.

I think my endurance is really improving as I'm not nearly as wiped out with my long runs now. However, I was much tighter than I had been in a while. Thank goodness for the TriggerPoint Therapy Kit though. It really does seem to help. Tomorrow I may need to do some additional stretching though, and likely no running.

Unplanned Day
Since the run was unplanned, it was also later than I would have liked. This meant a very late lunch (as in after 3) and we had a couples baby shower to attend. I think this was the first time I was ever late showing up to something. But I must say, it was the best shower ever. No games, no silly nonsense, it was just a freaking party! They even requested that gifts not be wrapped so they didn't have to sit down and do the whole unwrapping ordeal. Fantastic!

Of course, this all means that it's late, no Sushi Saturday as I had so hoped for. Not a clue what we'll end up having for dinner as we didn't get to the grocery store as planned. But I'm in my PJs, feet propped up, and I'm finally comfy. I got lots of laundry done (and folded), downstairs dusted, got in a pretty good run, enjoyed time with Jason and with friends. All in all, pretty good day even if mostly unscheduled.

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
