Training Run & Tempeh Thursday

Beautiful Day for a Run
I hate to brag, but it was another gorgeous, spring-like day here today. Sunny with temps hovering at 70 degrees. Perfect for an outdoor run by the river. Though, I must admit that I really wasn't wanting to go run today.

I debated with myself about changing up the running plan (plan? what's a plan???). But tomorrow is supposed to be rainy. I also had a feeling that the sunshine and fresh air would do me some good. I've been up and down with my mood recently. I know a lot of it has been stress from the car situation. Also, the upcoming race is on my mind of course.

As expected, the run really boosted my mood. The wind had picked up quite a bit and it was in my face on the way out. I think that's probably better than having it in your face for the return though. Maybe....I did 4 miles then 4 gentle pickups. I'll be totally honest, it was supposed to be 2 miles and then the 4 pickups (hanging head...). No scolding please. I swear no more extra miles. In fact, I'm thinking of fewer.

The plan calls for rest tomorrow (all over that) and then 2 miles on Saturday. I sort of question the 2 miles on Saturday though. Any thoughts??? Should I run tomorrow and not at all on Saturday or just do a super easy 2 on Saturday to get the legs loosened up? I was thinking that a positive would be a little bit of energy/stress relief.

Tempeh Thursday
During lunch today, I got dinner started so it would come together quickly tonight. I made a Carrot and Cabbage Slaw and started marinating some tempeh in BBQ sauce. My hope was that marinating it for several hours would help keep it from being too dry when baked or grilled. I was really planning on grilling out this evening.

Alas, I got lazy. After getting stretching, rolling, and getting cleaned up after the run, it was starting to get a bit late, and I knew I was going to run out of day light. Instead, I did my nails, baked the "fries" and tempeh. I know there will be plenty of grilling soon enough.

So, not grilled, but still just as tasty. Even better, it did come together super quickly since I started it at lunch. And, marinating the tempeh for about 6 hours really did seem to help with the dry factor.

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
