80's Party Recap & Enjoying Sunday

80's Palooza Recap
I should probably actually say what the 80's Palooza (official party name) was for. It was for a friend's 40th birthday that was actually last month. Stephanie is a long-time friend. She actually helped take some of our wedding pictures. So, you asked for pictures, so here they are:

Leg Day
Today I woke up around 7:15 thinking it was a lot later than it was. I tried to go back to sleep, but only managed another hour. I knew we had lots on the to-do list today, so I got on up. Around 10 we hit the gym. I decided to go for a heavy leg workout today. It was super windy out, not exactly calling for a run. I warmed up on the elliptical for 10 minutes then I did 3x8 unless noted:

Squats - 4x8
Plie squats
Stiff-legged deadlifts
Step ups
Deadlifts 3x6
Calf raises 3x15
Walking lunges

I finished with 5 more minutes on the elliptical and called it done. I felt like I had a really good, really strong workout. I have a feeling that tomorrow, hovering will not be possible.

Just Enjoying
After getting cleaned up, we headed out to run some errands. I was happy to stop by Home Depot to get some plants for all the pots in the back yard. I was going to pick up vegetable plants, but we needed to get manure for the garden beds and

Jason refused to put that in my car. So, hopefully we can get that this week and finally get veggies planted. We've never waited this late.

We ended up going to a great little Irish Pub for a patio lunch. That somehow seemed to trump the need for groceries. We'll get to those tomorrow I suppose. It was just way to gorgeous out to not sit and enjoy for a bit.

I do feel like I've been way too lazy on the weekends when it comes to errands and chores. But then I think, life's too freaking short to be worried about such things. I know they have to get done, and they will, but I want to enjoy my weekends more than I want to do laundry. I did get laundry done actually. Just little by little. The house got dusted, the floors swiffered, and plants got planted. We got in workouts and we enjoyed time with friends and each other. That's how it should be.

So did you take full advantage of your weekend?

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
