Finally...A Run with the Hubby

Today I really wanted to get in another run. We have more stormy weather in our forecast for Monday and Tuesday. We're heading to my sister's tomorrow for a family lunch, so it was either today or not again until Wednesday.

Jason agreed to go with me for 6 miles (it ended up being about 6.4). I had wanted to get started earlier than we did. It was getting hot and extremely humid out. It was also super windy, but the wind actually ended up being a blessing for the most part (other than running headlong into it and feeling like you were running in place).

I am fairly certain Jason thought I was trying to kill him today. Of course, he's the one who hasn't ran in several weeks. I enjoyed the run, mostly because we finally got to run together. I was one sweaty mess by the end though. My calves were really tight too. But, overall, I'll rank it as a B+ run.

When we got home, I took about 30 minutes to stretch and roll on my TriggerPoint Therapy Kit . It helped pull out some of the kinks, but calves are still really sore and my piriformis is achy.

While we should have hit up Target and the grocery store, we ended up on a patio with friends for a late lunch. No regrets though. We had a nice, relaxing afternoon. Funny story, you know how girls often worry about showing up wearing the same outfit, Jason and our friend's hubby had on the same shorts. It was sort of cute ;-) (sorry Jason, had to share)

We have plans to go over to our friends' house, along with another couple. They want to play one of those dance "games" on the kinect. Obviously I'm clueless. I am not certain there's enough alcohol to get me to do this, but I'm trying to be a good sport and at least go over there. I am planning on taking some hummus, maybe come up with another snack as well. What's funny is that I used to be that girl that was always up and dancing at the hint of a good song. Gettin' old.....

So, are you one to play along with the dance off games or do you just sit back and watch?

(and I apologize for the short post and lack of blog commenting. I'm trying to do myself and hubby a favor and slightly disconnect this weekend.)

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
