Fun Facts Friday - 80's Fashion

Art Opening
The art opening last night was really nice. We have some friends who are also members and met us there as well. Now, I don't always "get" some of the "art" that's out there or some of the exhibits that come through. But I do enjoy impressionistic work. I get that one ;-)

The only downfall of the member's openings is that they are typically packed, so it can be difficult to really get up close to see the art. But it was a nice evening at least (despite the cold and the rain).

Weather is no Joke
Speaking of cold, clouds, rain, gray...raise your hand if you're hating Mother Nature right now (or your weather man). Both of my hands are up. Once again, the forecast was off. It started off that it was supposed to be sunny and near 80 (75 depending on some local stations).

This morning it was abruptly changed to heavy fog, rain chances for the morning and 68 degrees. And lately whatever the high is, go ahead and subtract at least 5 degrees from that one. Sheesh. I guess it could be worse, my pals in the northeast have snow. Now that's just plain old cruel.

Friday Gym Day
Sorry for this bit of a rambling post, it's definitely a non-traditional Friday post as I also worked out today. I hit the gym for another full upper body workout. Since I went with 2 exercises that I supersetted for each muscle groups at 3x5 on Tuesday (and I can still feel it), I went with just 1 exercise per muscle group, but still doing supersets of 3x8. I thought 2 exercises would be overkill.

I started with 1 mile on the treadmill then hit the weights:

SS#1
Single-arm rows
Alternating curls

SS#2 (this really isn't a true superset how I set it up)
Chest flye into press (did a flye then rotate wrists and did a press = 1 rep)

SS#3
Upright rows (DBs)
Double-arm kickbacks

I did some ab work then hit the elliptical for 10 minutes.

Fun Facts Friday - Let's Hear it for the 80's
Tomorrow we have an 80's themed bday bash to attend. I don't have a clue what to wear and no longer have big hair possibilities. Since it's Fun Facts Friday, I thought I would do a list of things I remember wearing from the 80's and hope you share some too (I need some fashion ideas you see).
  • Jelly bracelets - the more the better
  • Twist beads - again, more is better
  • Big bangs - bigger is better (I'm seeing a trend)
  • Keds (though I always had knock-off brands)
  • Multiple pairs of colored socks - again, more is better
  • Acid washed jeans tightly rolled at ankles to show off the multiple pairs of socks
  • Shoulder pads - still going with bigger is better obviously
  • Eyeshadow kits with every color of the rainbow - who cares what color suits you
  • Neon...anything
  • Jelly shoes (remember how sweaty they made your feet? And the blisters? Just me?)
  • Hammer pants - yep, you guessed it, bigger, baggier, better

Ok, your turn. What did I miss or what did you wear????

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
