Spinning, Winning & Wrapping - Curried Tempeh Wraps

Windy Wednesday = Spin
It was sooooo pretty out today. My legs felt 100% after resting up yesterday (duh). I was itching for a run, but I wasn't itching to kill myself. The winds were freaking insane today. I was sitting in a meeting just watching the trees sway, swish, and bend and realized there was no way I was going to get out for a run. Call me a weenie if you will. Instead I hit up spin class. Now you can't call me a weenie for that one!

I have a hate/love relationship with spin. I really don't just love it. But...I kind of do. I guess I'm just terribly sadistic, because what I love about it is pushing myself to the edge. There is just something about thinking you can't spin any faster, but realizing you can. You really do have to dig deep, focus, overcome. Yes, I know, it's a spin bike indoors. But still.

Anyway, I had a really awesome workout. The track used kicked ass. Usually there are some major lulls where my heart rate tends to drop, um, not so today. Today I actually wanted to curse at the end of hills or sprints.

I remembered today that there are other badass workout other than running or weight lifting. Other workouts that give you that endorphin rush and sense of accomplishment. I don't have to run 9 miles or squat my weight for a workout to be exceptional. I've sort of forgotten that recently. When I do elliptical time, I don't think of it as a good workout really. I think of it as "meh." I'm there, I'm moving, but not loving it.

I used to LOVE step. But lately it's either running or lifting. I'm headed for another injury that way and I know it, so I really have to make a very conscious effort to do better with cross-training. As much as I don't want to do indoor workouts, perhaps spin and more kickboxing/boxing are in order.

Win Win
When I got home, I had this fantastic giveaway win package waiting for me. Love getting awesome packages!

I recently won Lindsay's (from Cotter Crunch) Love Grown Foods Granola Giveaway. I can't wait to dig into this granola. I love the wholesomeness of it. I can also share it with my sis since it's gluten-free. I also love that there's no added sugar. Thanks so much Lindsay and Love Grown Foods!

Wrapping It Up
Jason has been really busy at work and working later hours. This means that if I want dinner before 7pm, it really is all on me. I wasn't really excited to do any major cooking today to be honest. I wanted something on the easier side. Of course, I have a problem taking the easy route.

I am out of veggie burgers, I thought about stir-fry, I also started thinking about some type of curried something or other. But sandwiches also sounded good. So what does Heather do? Curried Tempeh Wraps of course.

Curried Tempeh Wraps
Ingredients:
1 package tempeh
1/2 package firm silken tofu (could also use vegan mayo or cashew cream)
1-2 tbsp red curry paste (depending on heat preference)
Agave nectar (to taste, approximately 2 tsp)
Spices to taste: parsley and garam masala
1/2 cup frozen peas, thawed
2 carrots, shredded

Directions:
Brown tempeh in skillet and transfer to mixing bowl.

In food processor, puree tofu with curry paste, agave and spices.

Add tofu mixture to tempeh, peas, carrots and combine. Re-season if needed.

Serve in whole-wheat wrap. I also added in some shredded lettuce. This would also be good on a salad and would work really well for seitan and even chickpeas. I actually loved this. Jason wasn't nearly as keen on it for reasons he couldn't entirely pinpoint. I, however, will be making this again ;-)

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
