Seattle Day 2: Tulips, Wineries, More Grilling

Saturday in Seattle
Saturday was another fantastic day. It started off a little rainy and cloudy, but it did clear up eventually. We had really hoped to hit Vancouver, but ended up deciding to do more of a driving tour of the area. We hit the Skagit Tulip Festival first.

After the tulips, we made our way to the cute, quaint town of La Conner for lunch. We stopped at Nell Thorn's. Such a cute little place with fantastic food and several vegetarian options. I had the vegetarian chili and Jason got their portobello sandwich so we could sample both. We did start with the hummus. Terron had the calamari to start and a burger. Denise had polenta cakes and a cup of the vegetarian chili. We all left (in Terron's words) "fat and happy."

After stuffing ourselves, we decided to hit up a couple of wineries...since we were in the area and all. We had planned on going to Snoqualmie Falls, but it was starting to get a little late, and we were getting a little worn out at that point. We hit up Trader Joes (again) for a few dinner essentials, then back to our friends' house.

Dinner was another grilled feast. I used the mango butter I bought from TJ's yesterday as a glaze for my tofu. We had lots of grilled veggies, a salad, and everyone else had grilled chicken. I love being able to relax with friends while making dinner. Eating out can be fun, but there's just something about prepping and cooking meals together that makes it better.

Sunday Seattle Plans
Today the plan is to go for a much-needed run. The boys will walk the dog (such a cute cute pup) while Denise and I run. Then we're planning to going to hit a couple of markets - Fremont Market first. After that, the plan is to spend the rest of the day on their boat. It's so hard to believe the time here is getting so close to an end.

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
