Beach Vacation Day 4: Running, Beaching, Dining

Running
So, consensus is that everyone likes me in pink huh??? What's so funny is that I bought that suit from Victoria's Secret at the end of last summer on clearance. I had thought it was a more subtle color and was totally shocked when I tore into the package. Holy shockingly pink! But I ended up falling in love with it. It's soooo not "me". And maybe that's what I like about it?

Anyway, This morning I opted for an indoor, treadmill run with the Food Network to keep me company. I did 3 miles then 4 x 1:00 athletic intervals. I went ahead and stuck it out to round out the mileage to 5. Seriously, watching TV makes a world of difference when running the treadmill.

I got back up to the condo and rolled out on my Triggerpoint kit and stretch. Definitely feeling super tight after running three days in a row. That's something I haven't done in a very long time. I try to space it out. But, here, on vacation, I am really down to either running or doing one of my DVDs that I brought. The running sounded like so much more fun.

Beaching
Once again, we packed up the cooler for the day and headed down to the beach. We're so predictable on a beach vacation. Are you bored yet? We pretty much just sat and read until about 3. Such a rough day I'm telling you. ;-)

I did finish my first book, Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon. The reviews, compared to her other two books weren't the best. The book, while not nearly as good has her others, wasn't just horrible. Of course, I am on the beach and maybe a bit more forgiving ;-) I am still trying to "get" the ending. I did re-read the last two pages several times. Maybe it's one of those books you really do need to read more than once or I just have too much sand in my head and missed something along the way.

I started on my second book, Jane Green's Dune Road. I've only read one of her books, but so far this one seems pretty good. It's definitely not going to be though-provoking mind you. Just a good beach read. That's all I need right now though.

Dining
My former dance teacher and his wife (whom we became really good friends with) just moved down here to Perdido Key, FL. They've had property for ages with the plan to retire and build here. They finally sold their house a few weeks ago and are now here. How fun right??!!

We knew that we were going to definitely have dinner with them at least one night. Antonio is an amazing cook actually. They're such great people. While we're going to miss them terribly, we love that we'll have friends to visit each year! And we loved that they invited us to dinner last night.
Sorry for the bad picture. Dinner tasted much better than the photo I can assure you. The salad was fantastic, loaded with green beans, potatoes, artichokes, and roasted red bell peppers. We had a great time visiting and catching up. We actually managed to stay out until 10:30 - a far cry from our recent 9 pm bedtimes ;-)

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
