Spinning, Grilling, Enjoying

Spinning Back to Normal
I totally forgot to take pictures from last nights dinner night with our friends. She made enchiladas (including a vegetarian version for me). Everyone loved the Layered Black Bean and Pineapple Salsa Dip I brought. I will most definitely make this again for gatherings.

Today I opted for the noon spin class and worked until 5. I really wanted to go with my friend (she was doing the 5:30 class), but I just didn't want a late evening on a Monday. I'll be honest, I was having kind of a blue day. Not sure why, just was a bit down.

I was determined not to let it get the best of me and thought getting to spin mid-day may help me out a bit, kind of take my mind off of things and break up the day. And of course it did. It was a good class, and I was smiling at the end (with the exception of almost being hit in the crosswalk going back to my car).

Grilling
I can really close to doing another dish with pineapple, but decided to go with the corn on the cob we picked up at the grocery store yesterday. Jason and I both love grilled corn and have been wanting some lately.

So, tonight I thawed out some homemade Seitan Cutlets and basted them with a BBQ sauce and tossed those on the grill along with corn on the cob and broccoli. For the corn, I carefully pull back the husks and remove the silks then fold the husks back up and soak in water for about 15 minutes. This way you can just put them directly onto the grill and they won't burn.

You really can't go wrong with grilled corn for starters. This was an ideal summer evening meal.

Daily To-Enjoy List
I definitely had to think longer and harder about my To-Enjoy List for the day. But, I am determined to find at least one thing to really enjoy, to really look forward to each day. It really made such a difference for me last week. I am hoping that it just becomes habit for me.

After spin class, I was feeling much more like myself and was able to focus on the things I intended to enjoy today (already having checked off spin of course).
  • Spin class
  • Grilling out
  • A little bit of yard work
  • Eating at the kitchen table (aka no tv)
  • Watching a movie with Jason (after dinner)

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
