Running, Trader Joe's and Stocks & Blondes

Interval Running
Yesterday I opted to sleep in (7:15 am) rather than get up for a morning run. After being in class, sitting all day, running afterward is really really welcome. So, I save the workout for post-class. I hopped on the treadmill and did 2 miles at an easy cruising pace (for me), a 9:05 minute mile (mm). I then proceeded to intervals:
1 x 4 mins at 8:27 mm, 4 mins at 9:05 mm
1 x 3 mins at 8:27 mm, 1 mins at 9:05 mm
2 x 2 mins at 8:27 mm, 2 mins at 9:05 mm
4 x 1 min at 8:06 mm, 1 min at 9:31 mm

This put me a little over 5 miles and it actually flew by rather quickly. Love it how intervals can do that for you.

Trader Joe's and Stocks & Blondes
I got cleaned up quickly and we made a trek over to Trader Joe's so I could get a few things for lunch for the rest of the week. I am really quite tired of ordering out, and am enjoying just making sandwiches or salads in the room and relaxing for a bit before heading back to class.

After the Trader Joe's trip, we met one of my coworkers at a dive of a place nearby called Stocks and Blondes (I could only find this link with menus or a facebook page). This was definitely more our speed to be honest, low-key, inexpensive, jukebox (or the new age of jukebox) music. So, the food wasn't just off the charts spectacular, but it was still good and not over-priced.

I got the grilled veggie wrap with steamed veggies on the side. It was really dark in there so the flash really washes it out. I added in some tofu from Trader Joe's for protein.

It was really fun to just chill out and talk with my coworker. It's funny that 3 of us came together, but we really don't see much of each other after class.

So, Tuesday was a much better day for me. I felt back on track somehow. Maybe it was the run. Maybe it was a more (semi) normal evening that included a grocery store trip. I mean, that's what one normally does right? I wish I could say I normally hit up Trader Joe's. Must work on getting one in Arkansas.

Wednesday
This morning I almost didn't get up for a workout. I reset my alarm, but ended up getting up early enough for a 2-mile run. Nothing earth-shattering, but a nice way to get the day started at least.

I plan on eating lunch in the room again (got myself some more TJ's baked tofu) then a short workout after class. I just want to do about 15 minutes on the elliptical (maybe less) and some resistance work with their cable/pully machine.

Then, I'll be off for a blogger meet up! I'll be meeting Sarah from The Ordinary Vegetarian at Karyn's Cooked for dinner. This is a doubly good evening to look forward to if you ask me. Meeting Sarah AND eating at Karyn's again. A total Win Win situation!

I'll be sure to do a full recap tomorrow. Happy Hump Day!

Daily To-Enjoy List
  • Sleeping in a little more than normal
  • Blogger meet up
  • Karyn's Cooked for dinner (aka awesome vegan dinner)

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
