Running & Leaving. Branson Bound

Running (Short on Time)
This morning I just couldn't get myself energized or enthusiastic enough to get out of bed for a morning run. It was pitch black. Jason wasn't going to run with me (he had to be at work early). Of course I kicked myself big time when I stepped outside to head to work. While it was very humid, it was only 72 degrees.

I just hate feeling like I HAVE to get out there at any moment when the temps cool off even slightly. I could have done spin today, but I really don't like the class style from the instructor for today. Instead, I sucked it up and hit the treadmill for intervals before moving onto triceps and abs.

As much as I hate running indoors, at least the treadmill is good for speed work. Especially since I don't have any way to calculate my pace when running outdoors on my own. I was in a time crunch to be honest, so I did a simple giant set for triceps as 3x8 and some ab exercises during the rests.

Double-arm overhead triceps extension
Lying triceps extensions
Double-arm kickbacks

Just did some quick abs like hanging leg raises, weighted side bends, wood chops on stability ball and bicycle move.

Why the rush? I needed to get my pupsters to my sister who will be doggy sitting while we're gone. She can't stay the night tonight since she has to work so she'll be bringing them back up and house/dog sitting tomorrow.

Oh, and I know I've only been slightly alluding to us being out of town. We were supposed to be heading to visit my friends Jessica and Jolene this weekend. But plans changed. While I'm really sad that we can visit this weekend, I am looking forward to still being able getting away briefly.

We're going to Branson, MO. The last time we went it was over Valentine's weekend in 2010. My father has a time share so it's a free stay at least. We don't really do any of the tourist attractions other than shop at the outlet mall (sooo looking forward to this). We're really not into shows and the wineries are...well, not our preferred style of wines.

There is also a lake nearby - Table Rock Lake. We've never had a chance to go out to the lake because we've only been in the winter. But this time, we're taking advantage of being there in warm weather. Tomorrow we'll be renting a boat and spending the day lounging on the lake.

Sorry for the quick post today. I promise to make up for the pictureless boring post when we get to Branson.

Daily To-Enjoy List:
  • Morning run (ok, this didn't happen)
  • Getting out of town

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
