Fun Facts Friday - 5 Random Facts

Biceps for Friday
Well, let's just say I ended up going to be last night just after 8. While my tummy feels better today, my head is absolutely killing me. Not really sure what the deal is. At least it wasn't a stomach bug. I woke up most definitely ready to eat this morning.

I decided to hit the gym for a short, very low-intensity workout today. I did about 20 minutes on the elliptical then worked biceps. I had planned on shoulders originally, but remembered how it felt to run 13 miles the day after a shoulder workout last week. Um, not good.

Even though I remind myself repeatedly to relax my shoulders and upper body, after running for so long, your shoulders and arms eventually do start to feel like you've been lifting weights. So running after actually having lifted only makes it worse.

So biceps: giant set of 3x8
Hammer curls
Cross-body curls
Incline curls
I also did some ab work after biceps. So it was a fairly short, sweet workout for a Friday. Nothing complicated, no cardio over-load, but it was nice to be doing something.

Fun Facts Friday - 5 Random Facts
Now moving right along to Fun Facts Friday. Sometimes, the fun facts come to me easily. Other times it takes a while to figure out what direction I want to take the facts. Today is one of those days where I'm kind of at a loss for inspiration. No real theme in mind.

So how about 5 totally random facts?
  1. When I was a kid I used to bite my toenails. Yep, fingernails would be totally gone so I moved on to the toes. Don't worry, I couldn't even get my toes to my mouth if I wanted to bite them now (eeewwwww)
  2. I still have a permanent retainer on the inside of my bottom teeth. Thankfully I have found that this is not uncommon. My orthodontist died in a plane crash before it was removed. Now dentists say that as long as it's clean, no worries because teeth will likely shift if it's removed.
  3. I hate cucumbers, celery, and avocados. Being vegetarian doesn't automatically mean I must like all veggies.
  4. I love driving fast and would love to go do a race weekend where you get to learn to drive a race car (this would make my dad proud).
  5. Sometimes I get really really nervous before I go for a run. No rational reason for this.
So, your turn. You can give me 5 random facts or just one really embarrassing one - I mean, I did admit to biting toenails so you guys owe me ;-)

Daily To-Enjoy List:
  • The fact that it's Friday
  • Texting my niece to wish her happy birthday (she's 7 today!!!) and getting a sweet reply that she loves me.
  • Sunshine
  • Possible happy hour with friends

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
