Re-rack Weights Please & Easy Seitan Dinner

Weight Day
Well if you ever want to sleep soundly for 10+ hours, run 13 miles or more. I slept like a log last night. I was actually sound asleep by 9:30. Jason was watching the Razorback's game. I couldn't care less or keep my eyes open, so that was that.

This morning I really felt spent. I absolutely didn't want to go to the gym for my workout. But, I forced myself to get going. I knew that once I got going it'd be all good. The only downfall was that the heat was on once again. Seriously? It felt like a sauna.

Oh, and good thing I wasn't wanting to use the squat racks. Once again, they were filled with 45# plates. So glad that someone can lift that heavy, but apparently they can't re-rack their weights when done.

Anyway, I went with biceps, back, chest today. I started with my typical elliptical warmup then went with trisets of 3x8:

TS#1
Hammer curls
Underhand barbell row
Flat bench chest press

TS#2
Alternating curls
Pullovers
Chest flyes

TS#3
Incline curls
Double-arm rows
Incline chest press

I did some ab exercises as well then called it done.

Errands & Relaxing Day
After my workout, I ran some errands. I needed to hit up Target, Whole Foods and make a return to The Limited. I behaved and didn't buy anything that wasn't on the list or buy something after my return (which was hard as original priced items were 40% off at The Limited).

Jason was out on his long run of the week so I took my time getting cleaned up after I got home. Meaning, I was more likely to do chores like vacuuming, cleaning showers, and more laundry.

I had some friends invite us out for a late, patio lunch, but we decided to behave and save money and stay in. This also meant I could go with a no makeup, no hair styling, no "real" clothes kind of day. Sometimes those are nice. Don't get me wrong, I would have really loved to have met our friends for $1 mimosas on a patio on a nice sunny day, but...sometimes the home-body in me prevails.

After a fairly low-key Sunday, dinner is rather low-key as well. I roasted baby red and gold potatoes with a small bit of olive oil, salt, pepper, thyme, parsley, garlic powder, and red pepper. Since the oven was on, I roasted up asparagus as well and served with homemade seitan cutlets with a mushroom and balsamic mustard sauce.

For the sauce, I simply sauteed onions, button mushrooms and then added in a combination of stone-ground mustard, balsamic vinaigrette, and agave nectar that I whisked together.

This was a nice, easy dinner. Maybe it was made better by the fact that the TV was off, relaxing music was on, and wine was being sipped in the process. Regardless, a nice way to finish off the weekend.

Daily To-Enjoy List
  • Getting errands & chores done
  • Gorgeous sunny day
  • Relaxing afternoon
  • Easy, but tasty dinner

Mid-Week Mix-Up - Disconnecting to Reconnect

Another Double Workout This morning I got up when Jason got up to go to swim. The plan was to do Cathe's MMA Kickboxing DVD then do back and triceps at lunch or after work. I really needed a day off from running - I had run 5 days straight. And wouldn't you know it that my cross-training day also happens to be the first morning in months that it was in the low 60's. Really? Talk about bad timing. I almost feel like I let the universe down by not taking advantage of the crazy cool temps. And of course they go right back up the rest of the week. Humph.... But, I listened to my body, my feet, my piriformis...all telling me to not run. So, I didn't. I did my kickboxing workout (sulking just a bit I won't lie). But it was a good way to "kick" off the morning. During lunch, I ran home to get in my back and triceps weights done. I went with my same back and triceps workout as last week. No gym means no assisted pullups or barbell rows. So, I do worry a bit

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . The benefits of this type of work
