Taco Salad Bowls for National Taco Day

Spin & Triceps
Today I went with spin during lunch. In all honesty, I was feeling very sluggish. Just not wanting to do anything. Of course, sinus headache and constant sneezing can do that to you. I don't feel bad or sick, just slightly drained.

I'm glad I forced myself to class though. Once I got moving, I felt much better. Well, except for quads on freaking fire from spin of course ;-) I guess it's all about one's perspective of "fun" when it comes to working out.

Before spin, I did get in triceps. Wasn't sure if that was going to happen actually. I ended up doing 3x10 as giant sets because someone was using (hogging MY weights) the dumbbell I needed for the double-arm overhead extensions. I had to go lighter so I increased the reps:

GS
Double-arm overhead triceps extension
Double-arm kickbacks
Triceps dips

Since it wasn't really a struggle to add the extra reps to the kickbacks using the weight I've been using, I know it's time to increase the weight (just a note to self). Also, I need to switch up the triceps exercises.

I have a hard time with my left elbow, however, and these exercises don't seem to bother it nearly as bad as some of the others. Suggestions? Single-arm overheads kill the elbow, lying extensions are doable (and I should have done those in lieu of the dips today I think). Lying presses just aren't going to happen.

When I think about my weight lifting right now, I feel like I'm in a total rut making zero gains. I don't use a trainer and no longer really follow DVD rotations either. I often get lazy and don't increase the weights when I should, though the past 2 weeks I have increased for biceps.

When you're not a trainer, don't use a trainer, what plan do you follow? How often do you switch things up? I really used to be much more conscious about changing up workouts, increasing weights, incorporating more variety.

Special Taco Tuesday
Well, not only is it Taco Tuesday, it's also apparently National Taco Day. This meant diner was a cinch to come up with at least. I kind of just had to go with tacos right? As is pretty typical, I went with Taco Salad Bowls vs a true taco though. I like my salads what can I say?

I used two Field Roast Mexican Chipotle "sausages" that I crumbled up and browned along with red onions, green and red bell peppers, corn, black beans, and cherry tomatoes. I really didn't need to add any seasonings because the Field Roast is so flavorful.

I made my taco bowls, filled with lettuce and spinach then piled on the goodness, which also included Daiya Vegan Cheese and fresh jalapenos.

Daily To-Enjoy List
  • Spin class
  • Easy dinner (love that it was basically decided for me)
  • Eating at the kitchen table

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
