Snow, Spin & Black Bean Tofu Burgers

Snow & Spin
I know I need to stop ranting about the weather. But this one is a doozy. Yesterday it was "supposed" to be cloudy in the morning then clear off in the afternoon with temps in the lower 40's. Ok. No biggie. Not only did the wind chills keep the temps in the upper 20's, but it certainly never cleared up. When I got off work, it was misting (no umbrella of course because I stupidly trusted forecast) and friends in other parts of the state were posting Facebook pics and posts of snow.

I was just wet and cold by the time I got to my car. Snow would have been preferable and drier. It kept drizzling most of the evening. Jason's alarm went off just before 5am for his master's swim class. Normally the deal is to shut off the alarm ASAP and not wake me up.

He quietly went into the bathroom to change, but then barges out to announce there is snow everywhere. Of course, I'm just a tad annoyed. I mean, I was attempting to go back to sleep. Then I was just shocked. Snow? Early December? Where do I live again?

Yep, this is what we woke up to. It was about an inch and a half in my area. Nothing dramatic, but totally unexpected.

Thankfully, the forecast was more on point today with sunshine and warming temps, finally into the low 40's. So, snow melted away quickly, but not before causing mayhem for commuting traffic.

Lucky for me, I wasn't planning on running outside today, or running at all actually. Intervals really work your legs more than you realize. I feel like I did a short leg workout yesterday. So, what do I do? Spin of course.

I was on the verge of calling it a rest day. But, I sent a quick email to the spin instructor to make sure she had made it into work and was going to teach. And she was. So, I kind of didn't have a super valid excuse. It was actually one of those classes that was tough to the point that it flew by. Too busy cursing my legs to pay attention to the time ;-)

Easy Dinner (Again)
I am definitely on board with the easy dinner boat this week. I almost went with an easy stir fry since I had rice leftover from last night. But I really didn't want rice again. I'm not exactly the biggest fan of rice to begin with. Burritos almost made an appearance, but I'm saving that for tomorrow.

What's the next easiest option? Burgers and fries. I had two leftover Black Bean Tofu Burgers in the freezer and plenty of sweet potatoes on hand.

Plus, baking everything in the oven helped warm up this freezing kitchen, so it was a win-win kind of dinner tonight ;-)

Daily To-Enjoy List:
  • Sunshine (finally)
  • Spin class
  • Another easy dinner

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
