Soggy Sunday = Gym & Christmas Decorating

Soggy Gym Day
I think it's about time to build an ark. It started raining sometime in the middle of the night and has not stopped at all. Not even tapered off. We have some drip, drip, drips happening in our ceiling that go along quite nicely with the constant downpour outside.

Jason and I did manage to make our way to the gym. I started with the elliptical for 15 minutes as a warmup then hit the weights for chest, shoulders and hamstrings. Everything was 3x8.

SS#1
Chest flye into press
Pushups with toes on bench

SS#2
Shoulder press
Bulgarian deadlifts (ouch, freaking ouch. I must conquer these bad boys)

SS#3
Lateral raise
Step ups with rear leg lift at top

SS#4
Upright rows
Hamstring rollins on ball

I followed up with some abs. It should go without saying that my arse is already sore ;-)

Rainy Day & Christmas Decorations
My original intention was to leave the gym and get to Whole Foods. But it was just pouring down, and I had no desire to fight stupid drivers in the rain just to get to WFs. So, straight home we went. I got cleaned up and immediately put on comfy yoga pants, long-sleeved T, and warm fuzzy jacket (not a coat, but sort of a fleece thing).

While I don't really enjoy rainy days, they can be nice for forcing you to just stay in, get things done around the house, and/or take it easy for a change. We kind of did a little bit of both: got things done and took it easy.

Next on the list was to get the Christmas tree and decorations out of the attic and downstairs. I usually love having a 2-story house. Today...not so much. This was definitely another workout in and of itself. We'll call it Christmas Cardio.

Tree in our pool room
I'm happy we finally got it all done, but man it's so much work only to have up for a few weeks. And what's crazy is I keep doing more each year. These are just two pictures. But we decorate our banister, the kitchen (blue & silver) and living room. I already dread taking it all down.

Do you go all out with decorations? I have some friends who have multiple trees even. I finally get annoyed putting up one tree let alone two and three.

Right now I have some butternut squash baking in the oven, some wheatberries cooking, and kale waiting to be sauteed. If it's recipe-worthy, I'll post tomorrow. For now, I am off to enjoy the last remnant of the weekend. I hope you do the same!

Daily To-Enjoy List:
  • Gym time
  • Christmas tree up (love/hate on this one)
  • Relaxing day - no makeup or hair styling

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
