Sunny 9-mile Run

This morning started off really chilly, as in 32 degrees chilly. But, finally some sunshine. Oh how I've missed sunshine. Luckily, I didn't have anything pressing this morning, so that meant we could be lazy and wait for the temps to warm up a bit before going out for a run.

When we started our run at 11:15, it was about 45 degrees, clear skies, and seemingly no wind (don't forget this seemingly no wind statement please). We started off just chit chatting. Laughing and talking about random things. I was probably doing most of the talking, but we can pretend that Jason was chatty too ;-)

The first half really seemed to fly by for me. I was soaking up the sunshine and enjoying Jason's company. We made our turn around...and were smacked in the face by the wind. Oh yes, the wind I didn't think existed? It did exist. I was really getting hot until that turn around then it was a sudden cool down. I was really glad I had left my gloves on at that point.

Jason might have been happy for the wind because it did shut me up a little bit. It's harder to be a Chatty Cathy when you're running into headwinds. But, sometimes joking and laughing helps you get through those tough spots. Or that's my excuse for continuing to try to talk.

When we got close to the car, I Jason asked if I was going to go a little farther. I said I was, and I assumed that meant he was just going to stop and wait for me. I tried to hand him my water bottle, which felts like a lead weight today for whatever crazy reason, but he said he was going to go on with me. So, we ended up hitting 9 miles today. For me, it was a fantastic run. I know a huge part of that was because of the sunshine and the company.

My sciatica was hurting pretty badly, so I tried to stretch out and roll a little extra before getting cleaned up. It was hard sticking to the stretching because I was getting so cold and the hot shower was just calling my name.

Tonight we have plans on going to a holiday party with friends. So after I showered, I went ahead and did my hair and makeup (you know, sparkly smoky eyes kind of thing). We still needed to eat lunch as the party wasn't going to be ideal dinner food. So we headed out to Vino's Pizza & Brew Pub - yep, me and my crazy smoky eyes with jeans, cardigan, flats. The great thing is that Vino's is such an eclectic place, not one person would have noticed.

Anyway, we're about to finish getting dolled up for the party now (thought a nap sounds kind of nice right now). I promise to take pictures and do a better post tomorrow. I do hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday!

Daily To-Enjoy List:
  • Run with Jason
  • Sunshine
  • Holiday party with friends

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
