NYE Recap & Back to Normal

NYE Recap
Last night was a great one. Not only did we ring in a new year, it was spent with my husband, my sister, and good friends. Here are just a few pictures to recap.

Workout & Back to Normal
This morning I was hoping to sleep in as we didn't get to bed until about 1 am. Usually if I a up at that time, it's getting out of bed to go pee LOL. But, sleeping in just didn't happen for me. I started waking up a bit after 5 and finally gave up and got up just after 8.

While it was another beautiful, sunny day, running was not the workout plan. Instead, we hit the gym for our first workout of the year. I did about 15 minutes on the elliptical to warm up before doing trisets of 3x8 (unless noted) for shoulders, biceps, hamstrings and then some abs at the end.

TS#1
Arnold press
Barbell curls
Bulgarian deadlifts

TS#2
Front raise
Hammer curls
Step ups (with dumbbells)

TS#3
Lateral raise
Incline curls
Hamstring rollins on ball - 10 reps

After the workout, we met up with our friends for lunch then back home to take down all the Christmas decor. For me it's bittersweet in a way. It means the holidays are over, but then it's also nice to get things back to normal around the house. Other than the fact that we can't put the boxes back in the attic until the water heater is fixed...but that's beside the point.

I imagine the rest of the day will be a lazy one as I'm already in PJs. I am planning making a simple dinner that will include the necessary black-eyed peas and cabbage. It might just be a tradition for prosperity, but I can use all the luck I can get, so why not give it a shot right?

I hope everyone has had a great start to the New Year.

Daily To-Enjoy List:
  • Workout
  • Sunshine
  • Lunch with friends

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th...

KIND Bar Review + Apple Raisin Wheat Berry Salad

Weights & Step As much as I wanted to run today, I knew there was no getting up early enough to do so. Monday's are hard enough without getting up at 5 am to run. Yawn ... So, today I did my weights at lunch then cardio after work. Weights were pull muscles (biceps and back). I did 3 sets of 8 reps of the following: Biceps : Alternating curls Cross-body curls Zottoman curls Back: Single-arm horizontal row Underhand DB rows Double arm rows It was a pretty good workout. I felt pretty strong today for some reason. Love it when that happens. My legs were pretty sore from yesterday's workout, so I opted for a lower intensity cardio: Cathe's Low Impact Circuit - Cardio Only Premix plus abs. It was a great workout and helped to loosen up my legs. KIND Review I have been very remiss with my review of the KIND bars that I won from Jill @ My So Called Health LIfe . I won the Nut Delight. I don't know why, but I expected it to be a tad softer...
