Perdido Key Vacation Day 3

Perfect Evening
Last night we had dinner at our friends' home. They finished building in December, and we couldn't wait to see it. As expected, it was perfect. The kitchen, dining room, and living room are all one open space. And from the oven/stove, you look straight out onto their huge balcony that overlooks the intracoastal waterways.

This is the view we enjoyed while visiting and eating dinner. As always, they were incredible hosts. We enjoyed much laughter, good food, and good wine. You just couldn't ask for much more than that.

Just Another Day at the Beach
This morning I got up and headed out for a run right at 8 am. The sun starts to rise so much earlier here than at home, so 8 am is already starting to get warm. Not only do you have the heat, but the humidity and no shade.

Yesterday there was a breeze to help keep us cool. Today? No breeze. In fact, the air was so calm, the ocean looked more like a massive lake with virtually no waves.
That would be my husband floating in the water
I let Jason sleep in so this was a solo run. I headed towards the area we ran yesterday since it was now familiar. Overall, I had a really good run. I got in 5 miles total. The only issues I had were dealing with the humidity. Makes for difficult breathing and definitely made me slow my roll. .

After the run, I had to shower before getting ready for the beach. Kind of funny thinking of showering before beach time, but when you're that much of a sweaty mess, it's necessary.

As we did yesterday, we packed up the cooler with lunch, snacks, lots of water, and a few adult beverages. Then we proceeded to park it on the beach for about 5 hours. I finished one book and started another. I dozed, daydreamed, and simply enjoyed.

The only annoyance was a family that had set up a canopy tent nearby. They pretty much yelled at their kids and spanked them for about 2 hours straight before finally going back to their condo. Good times.

We did have some thunder storms move through quickly around 4 pm. It really was mostly thunder and heavy wind. Only a few sprinkles. Everyone cleared the beach pretty quickly - which is always rather amusing to watch really.

Since we don't have a grill, we went with Roasted Veggie & Tofu Salad for dinner. I just roasted up portobellos, red and yellow bell peppers, and squash. I made an easy marinade/dressing using sugar-free raspberry preserves, Dijon mustard, an onion & herb Mrs. Dash spice blend, and balsamic vinegar. After dry-searing the tofu, I let it marinate briefly then baked it off.
I also topped the salad with some cherry tomatoes and feta cheese as well as the rest of the marinade/dressing.

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
