Fourth with Friends

July 4
I hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth of July. My day started off with a hot 4-miler. The first mile was slow and heavy. I know it was the heat mostly, but my legs just weren't working with me. So when I saw that it was a 9:33 pace, I thought, "well this is going to suck."

My legs started to loosen up a bit though. I started relaxing into the run and finding a good rhythm. So just when I started thinking about cutting the run short, I started to feel better about it. I ended up having negative splits for the remainder of the run: mile 2 - 8:55, mile 3 - 8:43, mile 4 - 8:40.

After I got cleaned up, Jason and I had some errands to run. We had friends coming over and needed to pick up a few things. Of course we ended up taking far longer than expected and coming home with a lot more than expected as well.

They ended up showing up around 1 and we immediately got in the pool. It was another hot hot triple digit day. The pool water wasn't even all that cooling to be honest. It steadily went from 90 to 94. For pool water, that's starting to become bath water. It was still a really fun day. We just lounged around, had some drinks, laughed a lot.

All in all, it was a really good way to spend the 4th.

Day Off
I actually took today off. I just really needed a mental health kind of day. I think we all get to that point once in a while. I tried to sleep in. I did manage to at least stay in bed until 7:45. Not exactly sleeping in though huh?

I needed to take a break from running today and no legs as I'm doing the dry-needling this afternoon. So, I went with back, triceps and chest followed up with a bit of Cathe Friedrich's MMA Kickboxing.

I did 1 set as a triset then did the remaining as supersets. I did all as 3x8 unless noted

TS
Underhand row
Double-arm overhead triceps extension
Pushups - 14

SS#1
Double-arm row
Pullovers

SS#2
Lying triceps extensions
Kickbacks

SS#3
Chest flye
Chest press

I will be sure to report back about the dry-needling tomorrow. Maybe it'll make for a Fun Facts Friday post ;-)

Before I leave you, I did want to follow up on my post from yesterday about my great-aunt's funeral. I certainly never meant to dis any religion at all. I know that each religion has their set of rites and rituals and are meaningful in different ways.

So, if I offended anyone at all, I do apologize as that was never ever my intent. And from most of the comments I received, you all completely understood what I was saying and how and why I felt as I did. I don't think any of you took offense, but wanted to just make certain.

Daily To-Enjoy List:
Day off
Good workout
Pool time
Relaxing

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
