Running and Fun For Friday - Fitness Wish List

Oddly Good Run
I ended up making Wednesday a rest day. I wasn't necessarily feeling any worse, but decided to just give my body a break. This meant I had time to get to the grocery store. Not the most exciting thing on a Wednesday evening, but necessary.

Today was a long long work day. I was looking forward to getting in a run, but was still feeling stuffy and lots of drainage. I went ahead and went for it, meeting my running partner at her office at 4:45 for our usual route.

I remember to bring my blinking light this evening since we got stuck in the dark on Tuesday. I should have brought the headlamp she got me actually. We ended up with a great 6-mile run. I have no idea how I did it, but I managed an 8:38 pace.

The only downfall (other than really choking on snot and not having water) was dodging lots of traffic and almost getting hit by drivers totally not paying any attention, dodging meandering pedestrians, random potholes, and then a Doberman that darted straight at us. Good times.

Well, it was good times in the end. It was a great run, and I really enjoyed the company. "A" and I have so much in common and so much to talk about. Sometimes it's hard to stop the run because we're just visiting.

Fun For Friday - My Fitness Christmas List
Speaking of running, I thought it would be very appropriate to share some items on my Christmas Wish List. This would be the fitness portion of the "wants" of course. Though, I might say some of the items are needs, like cycling gear now that I have a bike and the Nightlife gear for running and safety.

Love Nightlife products for their visibility. Need a short sleeved.
I only have a few pairs of running tights.
I have a black/yellow long sleeved, I think the pink would just be fun.

I'm obsessed with my compression socks now. I am sort of living in them.
Saucony Arm Warmers
Arm warmers are so handy on those iffy-weather days.

Kettlebells & workout DVDs - I miss my kettlebell workouts I was doing at the gym.

Cycling tights & jerseys (no brand in particular - recommendations welcome) - I only have a pair of shorts and gloves. So tights, jerseys that sort of thing is really needed now.

Running glasses - Mine are terribly scratched so these are a need.

Bike trainer (now that I have a bike, had wanted spin bike)

Ok, that's a partial list. What's on your fitness wish list? Any favorite brands?

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
