Thoughts & Things: Blood Thinners, Running, Bike Trainer

I've had some really random thoughts and ideas going on as well as things to share. So I thought this would be perfect for a Thursday Thoughts and Things post.
This is my "I'm thinking" look also showing how I look when I don't dress myself up & put on makeup.
(and wow, am I really leaving that picture for all to see?)

Thin Blood/Oxygen Relationship?
I've been running crazy fast times lately with my running partner. This hasn't been intentional by any means. I have honestly been trying to just get comfortable with running again and slowly trying to add distance in.

I've been learning about the training effect and how exercise can increase your capillaries as well as improve your overall cardio function. In other words, more oxygenated, nutrient-rich blood to your hard-working muscles.

This got me to thinking, could the blood thinners, in other words, thinner blood mean even easier blood flow? Greater output of this oxygen-rich blood? Could that be part of what's helping me run so much faster suddenly as well as having great recovery after the run?

I might be tired as hell. Some days I can barely peel myself out of bed after 10 hours of sleep and walk around looking like I've been run over by a truck. But suddenly, cardio is clicking? Just random thoughts so any experts out there, please weigh in!

Why I Run - in someone else's words
If you run, don't run, love it, hate it, you should read this post "Why we love to run" from Dr. Nick's Running blog. Seriously the best explanation I've read about why runners run. I can't ever seem to put it into words; somehow, he does.

Bike Trainer
I always loved my spin classes but never wanted to actually own and ride a bike. I'm terrified of falling. But, in November, I finally got a bike. I was able to get in two rides before the blood clot issue. We ended up investing in a trainer and I promptly jumped back on the bike for cross-training workouts.

Clearly I've become a little obsessed with my spin workouts now - as you can tell from my posted workouts: Quad Killer, Chase & Race, and Holy Hills.

Even more, my running buddy has a bike and wants us to sign up for a bike race sometime in the nearer future. Eek!

What are some thoughts and/or things for you today?

  1. I think you look just gorgeous without makeup for one. :)
I love spin but don't own a racing bike, I have seen those indoor trainers though and they are such a neat idea!
Hope you have a wonderful Friday and weekend!!!! And hey, brace your fastness. ;)

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
